SUMMARY:
Wanted: Production Manager (Protein)
POSITION INFO:
A large Protein Food and Manufacturing organization that manufactures oils for the food processing and all fast-food industries. They are also a bulk oil supplier to various industrial food market in Southern Africa.
Production Manager Roles
Main Purpose:
To ensure that the National Protein plant, always produces a product of good quality with on time delivery within the budget.
Required Minimum Education:
- Grade 12 and National Diploma
Required Minimum Work Experience:
At least 5 years Managerial experience in a factory environment with a technical (mechanical and electrical) and food background. A good knowledge of logistics and SHERQ is essential. Must be able to communicate with other people. Must have the ability to maintain good HR and IR relationships.

Key Performance
- Planned maintenance work. Control the execution of corrective work such as adjustments of spares, reconditioning of assemblies, dismantling, mounting, faults finding, servicing, and replacement of spares.
- Allocate work and explain work requirements of subordinate supervisors in respect of new or changed broad goals, procedures, programmes and standards.
- Plan specific downtimes in respect of production.
- The execution of preventative maintenance work such as: Inspections, put plant improvement in place, identity problem area on exception by analysing deviations according to availability reports, cost reports, history analysis, and critical approach, study reports regarding problem area study reports regarding problem areas.
- Continuous improvements: is continuously involved with the solution problem and the implementation of improvements and has approval authority, is terminally responsible, is involve with revision of drawings and the final design, evaluate results of improvements.
- The replacing of equipment: Control of physical replacement of critical equipment
- Reporting on manpower utilization
- Historical records of equipment: Decide in principle which occurrences will be noted according to the needs and information available.
- Emergency maintenance (breakdown maintenance): The planning and the implementation of emergency maintenance work, determine procedures which should be followed in the emergency solutions and ensure that all subordinates are familiar with procedures: Give guidance to artesian with the necessary planning to artisans with the necessary planning.
- The execution of the information function: Reporting maintenance availability, reporting to director operations about delays and action steps: Delegate further action steps to supt / artisan, report problem area which require further investigation, attend daily production meeting where the previous days delays are discussed, is involved in determining maintenance and plan availability standards.
- Cost reporting: Annually compile the budget of the organisation unit and estimate the cost of extra ordinary items or obtain quotations, submit to director operations, determine whether subordinates are working within approved budget, control and ensure that corrective steps are taken where deviations occur.
- Use of primary documents: Ensure by means of random inspections, that the correct documents are used in the right manner, spares manual provision, determine needs and set priorities, provide drawings, play a role in controlling drawings, provide technical information, apply technical information to analyse and find solutions.
- Execute middle supply function and spares provision, approve requests to order spares, participate in decisions on spares to keep in stock, provide information required to compile spares specifications, provide guidance on making spares serviceable should replacements not be available, inform stores immediately regarding urgently required spares which are not in stock, make recommendations to director operations regarding strategic and critical spares, study equipment, manuals and drawings to determine which spares and equipment is required for big critical tasks, control by random testing whether subordinates are correctly using manuals, equipment and drawings and whether all required spares are timeously available and correctly controlled,
- Ensure that Human Resources management : Personal administration and development, coordinates, the uniform application of personnel policy, procedures and practices by subordinates supervisor initiate requests to fill vacancies, participates with considerable authority in the section of new employees, select candidates for promotion to supervisory posts and approve or authorise recommendations from subordinates supervisor for promotion etc. of their employees, control and authorise subordinates leave roster according to policy, decide about unscheduled leave taking the work situation into account, handle complaints, grievances and problems which the sub ordinates supervisors have escalated, escalate unresolved complaints, grievances and problem to the Director
