SUMMARY:
A bakery production plant based in Potchefstroom is urgently seeking a passionate, Process and performance-driven, Production Manager that will continuously improve production and increase profits. This individual must have 5 – 7 Years of Bakery Production management experience, strong financial acumen, and be able to consistently deliver high-quality products. A Chamber of Baking certificate will secure your position.

POSITION INFO:
Minimum requirements:

  • Min 5 – 7 Years FMCG Plant Bakery Production management experience.
  • Chamber of Baking certificate will be advantageous.
  • Manufacturing Academy certificate or equivalent.
  • 3-year relevant degree / diploma relevant (i.e., bakery manufacturing/ food science technology/ production management).
  • Excellent bilingual skills in Afrikaans and English
  • Bakery process quality requirements and standards.
  • Management and leadership principles and practices.
  • The function of Raw materials and quality especially flour.
  • Food Safety.
  • Financial acumen to support planning, profit, budgeting, and cost controls.
  • Performance management principles.
  • Disciplinary and grievance management process requirements.
  • Continuous improvement practices and experience.
  • Process and performance-driven.
  • People’s person.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure optimal production efficiencies and effectiveness by overseeing the Production Team and processes in line with agreed standard operating procedures, food and health, and safety requirements as well as cost and quality requirements.
  • Ensure baking process delivers consistently high-quality products within specifications in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager by:
    • Ensuring adherence to baking process parameters.
    • Identifying exceptions and variations in process and correct in-process and correct.
    • Identifying exceptions and variations in equipment and report these to the maintenance manager to correct.
    • Support route-cause analysis when needed to address and correct.
    • Follow up and check that problem has been addressed and that the baking process is back within parameters.
    • Driving a quality mindset within production in collaboration with the quality control department in dealing with non-conforming products or customer complaints and collaborating on ways to improve quality.
    • Driving continuous improvement of production processes based on the feedback from the quality and the production team and doing internal and external benchmarking from time to time.
  • Ensure cost-effective raw material management by:
    • Correct and timely procurement of raw materials within specifications from preferred and approved providers.
    • Reporting non-conforming products to the Quality Control department to address as and when required.
    • Ensuring storeman receives and checking deliveries against order and raw material specifications.
    • Monitoring and managing stock levels in line with baking plans and demand.
  • Ensure high-performance culture and teamwork in the production team by:
    • Building and motivating capability through competency-based selection.
    • Training and development, coaching, mentoring, performance management.
    • Effective communications.
    • Leading and participating in invocoms and meetings as needed.
    • Ensuring good discipline and accountability.
    • Establishing good working relationships with union representatives.
    • Ensuring a conducive and safe working environment according to legislation.
  • Ensure full statutory compliance to all health and safety and food safety requirements in line with standards and SOP’s by ensuring training of relevant persons, audits, and corrective action of all findings in collaboration with the risk function.
  • Ensure cost-effective production through planning, organising, and managing the function to support optimal production in line with the designed capacity of the plant, agreed budget, resource plans, and targets.
