Production Team Leader - Chemical

SUMMARY:

An established manufacturer and distributor of chemicals is seeking a Production Team Lead to supervise the production activities taking place in the production plant as well as associated areas with regard to Production aspects, safety, health, environment, quality (SHEQ), receipt and issuing of raw materials and supervision of subordinates.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have a Diploma in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing plant is essential
• Experience in a Fertilizer manufacturing environment will be highly advantageous
• Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience is essential
• Process Safety Management (PSM) experience is essential
• Project management experience would be advantageous.
• Must have basic knowledge of the OHSAct, NEMA and all relevant regulations.
• Must be able and willing to work shifts.

• Ensuring that the weekly production programme and targets are achieved.
• Checking, in advance of scheduled production, the availability of raw materials and packaging material.
• Monitoring the production output and raw material usages.
• In liaison with the Production Superintendent/Manager, determining the order of production to ensure adequate stock cover and optimum plant utilisation.
• Supervising production and loading activities.
• Ensuring that labour is utilised effectively especially when production demands fluctuate.
• Controlling consumable costs.
• Evaluating, in conjunction with the Production Superintendent/Manager, the need to work overtime.
• Ensuring a sound knowledge of the plants and processes under ones control.
• Advising when to arrange further deliveries of bulk raw materials.
• Controlling the offloading and issue of bulk stocks.
• Responding to and documenting hazardous conditions and emergencies.
• Ensuring total compliance and adherence to all SHEQ rules and regulations.
• Ensuring accurate and honest reporting of incidents, near misses and safety hazards.
• Recording non-conformance incidents and attend weekly meetings in this regard.
• Ensuring a basic understanding of the Process Safety Management.
• Ensuring that bulk tankers are weighed correctly and that the necessary safety requirements and dispatch systems are adhered to.
