POSITION INFO:

Minimum Requirements
·         Doctoral degree in Zoology or related field in Aquatic Sciences
·         At least 10 years’ full-time experience in higher education for Full Professor / 7 years’ experience for Associate Professor
·         Extensive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research experience in Zoology or related field in Aquatic Sciences
·         Track record of research and publications in accredited nationally and internationally-recognised research journals commensurate with the academic rank of a Full Professor / Associate Professor
·         Postgraduate supervision experience including successful Doctoral supervision
·         Evidence of successful fundraising for research in the field of Zoology or related field in Aquatic Sciences
·         Evidence of academic leadership andmentorship of academics.
 
Added Advantages
·         Specialisation in aquatic sciences in one or more of the following: Ichthyology, Eco-physiology or Freshwater Ecology
·         Evidence of attracting and working with post-doctoral fellows
·         Evidence of professional and academic standing in the field of specialisation (e.g. NRF rating, international keynote addresses, etc.)
·         Evidence of national and international collaboration
·         Evidence of strong community engagement integrated with teaching, learning and research
·         A valid driver’s licence.
 
Duties 
·         Provide academic leadership in research, curriculum design, development and implementation
·         Teach Zoology, act as course co-ordinator where required and lead fieldtrips at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
·         Supervise Honours, Masters and Doctoral students
·         Meet research publication requirements for the appropriate academic level
·         Secure external research grants and establish research programmes
·         Participate in community engagement integrated with research and/or teaching
·         Contribute to academic leadership and mentorship of academic staff
·         Participate in administrative duties at departmental, faculty and university levels.
