JOB SUMMARY:
The University of Fort Hare is seeking applications from appropriately qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Mathematics (1 post), Faculty of Science and Agriculture.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Minimum Requirements: 
  • A Doctoral Degree in Mathematics (preferably in Pure Mathematics)
  • At least 10 years’ experience in higher education for full Professor / 7 years’ experience in higher education for Associate Professor / 5 years’ experience in higher education for Senior Lecturer
  • Extensive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research experience in mathematics
  • A track record of accredited research publications that are nationally and internationally recognized commensurate with the academic rank of Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer
  • Postgraduate supervision experience including successful Masters and Doctoral supervision

  • Evidence of successful fundraising for research
  • Evidence of professional and academic standing at the national and international levels
  • Evidence of academic leadership and mentorship of early career academics.
  • Recognition as a leading scholar in a chosen area of research (e.g., NRF rating, international keynote addresses/ plenary lectures)
  • Evidence of attracting and successfully hosting post-doctoral research fellows.
  • Evidence of national and international collaboration
  • Evidence of strong community engagement integrated with teaching, learning and research
 
Duties
  • Provide leadership in research, curriculum design, development, and implementation
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in mathematics offered by the department
  • Secure external research grants and establish research programs
  • Establish national and international collaborations
  • Supervise Honours, Masters and Doctoral students and host post-doctoral fellows
  • Meet research publication requirements appropriate for the academic rank
  • Contribute to academic leadership and mentorship of academic staff
  • Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research
  • Participate in administrative duties at departmental, faculty and university levels
