Project Engineer - Mining Equipment Safety Systems

SUMMARY:
Project Engineer required with Mining Equipment Safety Systems for the efficient deployment of mining systems on time and within budget on behalf of this Global Organisation for various clients with excellent software / electronics knowledge.

POSITION INFO:

Purpose of Position:

The Project Engineer is a critical part of the Project Engineering and technical team. Technical, contractors and other skills set as appropriate through the deployment of complex mining systems at customer sites around within EMEA and as required and appropriate other global locations. The project engineer has a strong and broad high-level knowledge of the mining systems deployed. To work with Project Managers and Team Leaders to ensure the efficient deployment of mining systems on time and within budget. Ensure that the deployment of systems and products is carried out as efficiently as possible. Manage, coordinate or recommend the training and development of the Project Engineers and other technical staff. Ensure the appointed staff are competent and cross-trained for flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Actively work on product/project deployment of complex mining solutions in a hands-on manner
• Support and maintain software
• Deliver bespoke customisation as required
• Troubleshoot system issues
• Own and implement customer system configurations
• Implement system customisations using scripting tools
• Participate in onsite system installation efforts
• Taking ownership and responsibility for customer issues and problems and seeing them through to resolution wherever possible
• Providing technical leadership in areas of expertise, cross skilling with other project team members to ensure transfer of knowledge and ample coverage of required duties
• Gather customer requirements and identify improvements and customisations for Mining Systems
• Act as technical project lead for system deployments, working collaboratively with the Project Managers and other Project Engineers in a structured manner
• Serve as primary customer contact for support and enhancements after deployment
• Utilize relationships developed with customers and other contacts to advise sales team of potential issues affecting customers as well as other opportunities for the Client.
• Manage customer relationships from project inception to deployment and post installation support, becoming the customer interface for that project
• Work collaboratively with sales team in a pre-sales capacity (e.g. attending / leading technical presentations) to capitalize on close relationships with customers and to raise the Client’s profile and product advantages and benefits
• Facilitate customer system training to ensure systems are being utilized to their full potential
• Representing the Client in a helpful, professional and courteous manner at all times
• Maintain, enhance and adhere to the Client documentation and reporting standards, systems and processes
• Work on support team maintenance tasks on a scheduled roster
• To participate in On-Call (after hours) support activities as required
• Compliance with the Client’s Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures, participation in audits and compliance with instructions given in respect to the health and safety of himself / herself and the safety of others
• Other duties as required from time to time

Knowledge & Experience Required:

• Education/Credentials:
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering (Computer / Mining / Electrical / Electronic), Computer Science, or a related field

Experience / Skills / Attributes:

• Experience with IP networking
• Experience with Hardware installation
• Experience with or knowledge of C++ OR Objective-C software development
• Ability to form strong relationships with customers and represent the company professionally
• Strong time management and prioritisation skills (pre-requisite)
• Ability to set and meet team and individual goals and deadlines
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to thrive in a high pressure environment
• Ability to work autonomously or part of a team environment
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
• Ability to rapidly grasp technical solutions, concepts and products
• Desire to expand own knowledge and skill set as well as sharing knowledge with other team members wherever possible
• Wireless networks experience (desirable)
• Minimum understanding of electrical schematics and installation (preferable)
• Knowledge mining operations (desirable)
• Experience with Trackless Mobile Machineries (desirable)

Travel:

• Travel (regionally and globally international) to client sites is a requirement of this role  
• Ideally, the candidate should be based in Johannesburg or Kathu
