SUMMARY:
A Project Manager (2 Years Fixed Term Contract) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's AGINCOURT division in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.

POSITION INFO:

Background

  • The MRC/Wits Agincourt Research Unit is an exceptional health and population research centre in the Wits School of public health
  • The school has several strong divisions including epidemiology and Biostatistics, and a sister Demography and Population studies program 

Main purpose of the job 

  • To contribute both operationally and scientifically to the trial, with overall on-site responsibility for project management

Location 

  • Agincourt - Bushbuckridge (Mpumalanga Province)

Key performance areas 

  • Manage and coordinate the study including staff training and supervision; field logistics with planning and monitoring of daily activities to meet targets and study objectives; managing field budget; data collection and quality control
  • Develop monitoring systems and report regularly on study progress to Agincourt research managers, study investigators, Trial Steering Committee and Data Safety and Monitoring Board
  • Liaise with the Soweto-based Ntshembo Project Manager to ensure standardized study procedures
  • Work with investigator team to establish and manage participant referral system
  • Maintain site documentation in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Ensure that data queries are responded to correctly and timeously
  • Assist with ethics applications and respond appropriately to ethical and welfare issues concerning participants and staff
  • Liaise with the Agincourt finance team to manage project budget

Required minimum education and training 

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Sciences, Nutrition or related fields

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities 

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail
  • Academic background suited to an understanding over/undernutrition and adolescent behavior
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Ability to work well in a team as well as independently, and to work under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to different audiences (e.g. researchers, study participants)
  • Familiarity with the concept of quality assurance, monitoring and fidelity in research
  • Driver’s license (essential)

Required minimum work experience 

  • Minimum 2 years of field-based research management experience
