Minimum requirements / experience

  • National Diploma / BTech Degree in Civil / Mining Engineering
  • Advance Certificate in Project Management will be an advantage
  • 8 – 12 years’ experience as a Project Manager or related
  • Minimum of 5 years of management of coal mining open pit operation

Responsibilities:

  • Measure and monitor customer satisfaction within a business unit and recommend corrective action
  • Liaise with a range of customers/suppliers, handle and attend to a range of customer / supplier complaints
  • Participate and interact with external stakeholders and ensure controls are in place to mitigate material risk
  • Manage risks in own work/business environment
  • Manage the finances of the project to achieve business unit objectives
  • Report financial performance (monthly), approve and manage expenditure against the budget
  • Lead and drive cost saving and cash conservation initiatives
  • Prepare and manage the budget of the business unit and report on variances from the budget and the reasons for those variances
  • Provide people leadership within projects and manage the project to achieve business unit objectives
  • Recruit and select candidates to fill defined positions
  • Manage individual and team performance
  • Monitor and evaluate team members against performance standards
  • Manage conflicts within the workplace and ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, timemanagement, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
  • Resolve grievances and disputes
  • Mentor individuals to enhance the individual`s knowledge, skills, values and attitude
  • Manage individual careers and conduct on-the-job training and job coaching
  • Assist in developing and implementing a strategy and action plans for the Project
  • Plan strategically to improve overall organisational performance
  • Identify and interpret related legislation and its impact on the Project and ensure compliance
  • Analyse qualitative and quantitative data required to inform a strategic Project plan
  • Strategise, research, develop and review appropriate mining technologies, systems and processes and adopt best practices
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of sub-contract and supplier agreements (including contract extensions and terminations)
  • Approve and propose subcontractors and suppliers
  • Review subcontractors and supplier performance and address non-conformances and noncompliance
  • Manage and finalise sub-contractors and suppliers’ account
  • Compile and report mining KPI''''s and indices
  • Analyse Mining KPI''''s and indices and identify non-conformances and improvement opportunities
  • Develop, implement and monitor action plans to address identified gaps
  • Identify and formulate mining project execution plans and programmes to satisfy client needs, applicable standards, codes of practice and legislation
  • Develop integrated mining project execution plans and programmes for complex mining projects
  • Monitor, evaluate and communicate mining project schedules to all stakeholders
  • Plan, organise and support mining projects meetings
  • Produce the mine plan in conjunction with client and reconcile mine production to the monthly and operational mine plans
  • Plan daily usage and consumptions (e.g. diesel, GET Load & Haul, GET Drill & Blast, tyres,explosives, etc.)
  • Define production objectives and parameters
  • Coordinate and conduct the closure of Mining projects
  • Transfer knowledge of lessons learnt during the project to relevant stakeholders
  • Manage mining risks and mitigating factors and assess mining project risks and incorporate mitigating controls in the project execution plan
  • Contribute to the management of risk within own field of expertise, maintain and update the mining project risk register
  • Review all mining project risk assessments and issue site instructions and work permits
  • Manage documentation and records within the Mining Quality Management System
  • Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Mining Quality Management System
  • Develop and manage mining procedures, apply and continuously improve mining policies and procedures
  • Comply with requirements of the Mining Quality Management System
