SUMMARY:
Project Manager: Staff & Skills Development (Fixed contract until December 2023)

POSITION INFO:

Job Purpose

Take responsibility for the implementation of the staff and skills development component objectives, as outlined in the project implementation plan. The appointee will be responsible for the planning, development, execution and management of all staff and skills development activities under the project. The implementation of project activities will require the appointee to work in close collaboration with the Engineering departments in both Buffalo City and Butterworth. In addition, the appointee will be required to identify, engage and develop relationships and agreements with targeted external entities, such as community groups, SMME’s, unemployed graduates, youths and service providers within the scope and focus areas of the project.

Key Performance Areas

Develop framework for engineering Staff Development

  • Develop criteria/requirements for the identification and selection of a cohort of engineering lecturers to register and study towards the attainment of Masters and Doctoral qualifications that is aligned with the research niche areas of the Engineering departments

Monitoring of Staff progression participating in Staff and Skills development component of the project

  • Provide support and manage the progression of lecturers participating in staff and skills development component of the project

Develop criteria/requirements for engineering Staff sabbatical placement within industry

  • Develop criteria/requirements for the identification and selection of a cohort of Engineering lecturers for sabbatical placement within industry to enhance the skills level of Engineering staff

Collaborate and assist in the development and delivery of Short Learning Programmes

  • Collaborate and assist in the development and delivery of Short Learning Programmes on Research Methodology, Research Proposal Writing and Academic Writing for Publication courses for engineering lecturers

Engagement with specific external entities is established

  • Identify, engage and develop relationships and agreements with targeted external entities, such as community groups, SMME’s, unemployed graduates, youths and service providers

Engagement with SMEs, youths and unemployed graduates

  • Collaborate and assist in the delivery of skills development training for SMEs, youths and unemployed graduates

Engagement with career development practitioners and organise career exhibitions

  • Identify, engage and facilitate training initiatives with career development practitioners and organise career exhibitions

Engagement with rural community-based groups

  • Identify, engage and implement focused rural community-based partnership agreements

Coordinate and undertake research-based investigations

  • Collaborate and assist in the planning and execution of a research-based investigation of current entrepreneur practices, skills and challenges, pertaining to the manufacturing sector within the eastern part of the Eastern Cape that can serve as a basis in undertaking entrepreneurial skills training among unemployed graduates

Minimum Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Management / Skills Development or relevant field
  • A doctoral degree in Public Administration, Business Management / Skills Development or relevant field would be an added advantage
  • A minimum of six years’ experience in a senior leadership role in an academic institution or a recognised research organisation
  • Evidence of being an outstanding academic with a good research track record
  • Proof of technical/professional competence in the planning of staff and skills development projects
  • Proof and track record in the execution and management of staff and skills development projects in a multi-dimensional environment
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of large projects
  • Proof of project and financial management skills and knowledge
