Project Materials Manager

SUMMARY:
Leading international corrosion protection contractor and coatings manufacturer, has a vacancy for a Materials Manager for a 6 month contract period.

The successful candidate must be able to start immediately.

No permanent employment is guaranteed after the project completion.

Desired Requirements:

• Degree or National Diploma in Materials Management
• Proficient in Excel, Word, MS Projects and PowerPoint (as a minimum).
• Valid and unendorsed driver’s licence

• Minimum 5 years' experience in materials management.
• Grit blasting, heavy-duty coatings and corrosion protection will be an advantage.
• High-level organisational and record-keeping skills.
• In-depth understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Good understanding of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
• Compilation of procedures, site/project plans and associated documentation.

• Excellent organisational and planning skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Problem-solving: Approach issues decisively. Use critical thinking to analyse problems, devise solutions, and apply them effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.

• Proficient with inventory reporting systems.

• The Materials Manager will oversee the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products for the project.
• Identifying material requirements, sourcing ideal suppliers, managing inventory and logistics.
• Directs production and inventory control, shipping and receiving, and materials/equipment storage.
• Maintains inventory levels to ensure deliveries occur within required timelines.
• Maintains and ensures the accuracy of the perpetual inventory system.
• Identifies opportunities to reduce transportation costs and charges.
• Procurement of materials required for the project.
• Analysing financial reports, price proposals and other information used to determine reasonable pricing.
• Meeting with vendors and staff to discuss unacceptable and defective products and establish corrective action.
• Manage the storeman for the project.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
