JOB SUMMARY:

An established manufacturer of animal feed is seeking a Quality Control Supervisor at their factory in Vrede, Free State to manage the QC laboratory, ensuring quality of raw material received and finished products distributed according to Good Manufacturing Practices and ISO System Management standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION:


Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a National Diploma in Animal Nutrition
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience in animal feed / factory environment is essential
  • Hands-on experience in the management of quality processes within a production environment, including QC of product and raw materials are important.
  • Knowledge of the South African Act of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations 85, 1993 is important
  • Knowledge of SABS ISO: 9001-2008 standards, GMP and AFMA code and Act 36.
  • Must have excellent computer and communication skills

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Checking NIR analysis of all incoming raw materials and finished goods daily.
  • Controlling the urease analysis of full-fat and soybean oil cake, recording results on the data basis, and ensuring each load received is tested.
  • Collecting all NIR data and plot graphs weekly.
  • Comparing NIR data to Wet Chem analysis to determine any variation in raw material / finished product quality - report to management when there are deviations.
  • Controlling the Sieve and Fraction tests, Density, visual raw material and finished product samples, rejected product batches and reworked products.
  • Controlling test and measurement equipment matrix to ensure everyone is always up to standard and according to specifications.
  • Recording calibration certificates 6 monthly or as and when required.
  • Monitoring finished product moisture and accuracy of fat coating process on a daily basis.
  • Checking preparation and sending of raw material & finished product samples to specific Institutions for verification of inclusion %.
  • Taking samples for Salmonella, monitor cfu and supervise dusting in all relevant areas.
  • Monitoring moisture & temperature of all incoming Chop and Soya OC loads.
  • Submitting Wetchem schedule samples & outlier feed samples for verification.
  • Checking the standard and cleanliness of the Laboratory.
  • Measuring performance and conducting observations every 3 months.
  • Managing and coordinating monthly meetings to handle all quality & personnel issues.
  • Scheduling service and calibration of measurement equipment as required.
  • Coordinating internal and external training for Laboratory Operators.
  • Overseeing the taking of accurate samples for testing to prevent unnecessary costs.
  • Adhering to the laboratory expense budget in terms of Wetchem submissions and laboratory equipment.
  • Conducting monthly audits in accordance with ISO and AFMA Standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures and work instructions pertaining to quality and food safety.
  • Liaising with managers on an ongoing basis to ensure the quality of services and products.
  • Reporting on Feed Additive inclusion via scheduled analysis to ensure quality of finished products.
  • Reporting on quality trends.
Salary package is highly negotiable depending on experience gained.
