Quality Control Technician

6-month Contract Position

JOB SUMMARY
Supports daily Quality Control activities with regards to reagent preparation, stock management, replenishing consumables, performing nuclease testing of PW Type 1 and managing internal item requests.

Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of duties that are critical for QC testing and related activities. These include, but are not limited to,
preparing reagents for use in QC testing, such as PW Type 1, SS0095 aliquots, TBE/TAE buffer preparation and single-use
aliquots of template and primers. Resuspends lyophilized primers and makes appropriate working dilutions.
- Responsible for environmental monitoring in collaboration with the Validation department. Performs end-point and qPCR
nuclease testing of water samples. Analyzes and interprets test results and completes reports accurately and in a timely
manner. Assists with investigations relating to Out of Specification (OOS) results.
- Independently monitor and oversee consumable inventory. Liaise with the QC Administrator with regards to purchasing
material. Assist with stock taking of internal and external control reagents, where required.
- Ensures that control reagents are stored in the correct locations and storage conditions. May assist with tracking the expiry dates of control reagents.
- Manages Internal Item Requests for the QC department. Serves as the main point of contact for internal and external
stakeholders and works with several Operations groups to order and receive internal reagents.
- Performs regular GEMBA walks to support 5S efforts to streamline. Communicates findings to the team and follows up on execution.
- Assists with capturing and issuing of retention sample requests.
- Actively participates in the CAPA/NCR/CR process. Initiate NCRs where OOS results were obtained for water testing and
drives to completion. May assist with some actions in CAPAs and CRs.
- Occasionally executes on QC testing according to standard procedures and within specified time frames. May be assigned
end to end QC testing of a product, or assist a QC Scientist with testing, depending on the immediate need. Interprets data
and completes QC reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Performs incoming testing of new DNA stocks by evaluation DNA integrity using gel electrophoresis.
- Manages schedule and workload independently and communicates as frequently as possible to ensure that all stakeholders are informed at all times.
- Establish, nurture and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders through regular
communication, networking and attending relevant meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

Required:
National Diploma National Diploma from a recognized tertiary institution in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or relevant discipline.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or relevant discipline.

Experience:
At least one year experience working in a laboratory environment or related field.
*Academic qualification can be used as equivalency for work experience.

- Experience in ISO quality management systems (ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485) will be advantageous.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint required).
- Experience in Molecular Biology techniques will be advantageous.
