SUMMARY:

This position based in Springs, requires a qualified person with 5 years of experience in leading, developing, implementing, and maintaining quality in an automotive manufacturing environment. A tertiary technical qualification is an advantage. IATF 16949, core tools training certificates and 2nd Party Auditor essential.

  • 5 years experience in leading, developing, implementing and maintaining quality in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Must be results-driven, delivery focused with excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of relevant automotive industry customer specifics e.g. processes, procedures, policies, guidelines and legislation
  • Must have an understanding of the stainless/mild steel business as well as manufacturing processes and controls
  • Quality Management processes and practices including advanced statistical / Analytical Tools and Techniques
  • Knowledge of IATF16949, ISO 14001 and relevant OEM  Management Systems e.g. Q1.
  • Knowledge of OEM customer specific requirements such as APQP, PPQP, etc
  • Knowledge of OEM process quality requirements such as FMEA, CP, R & R studies, etc
  • Supplier management relevant to supplier quality assurance required.
  • Knowledge of metrology, part measurements and lean principles are essential

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of quality standard in the manufacturing facility so that customer and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with quality personnel at the customer level.
  • Drive continuous improvement in process control and productivity in manufacturing processes.
  • Liaise with Production, Engineering and Supply Chain on all matters related to plant and product quality.

Integrated Management Systems:

  • Planning for implementation of the integrated management system requirements.
  • Developing, reviewing and implementing receiving Control Plans, Inspection Instruction, Visuals / Guides / Acceptance Criteria and forms compliant to the customer and relevant IATF16949, ISO 14001 and legal requirements.(taking into consideration Special Characteristics as designated by customers)
  • Retaining sub-supplier receiving and other process documented information on the intranet and designated storage areas.
  • Implementing document and records control process requirements for receiving.
  • Assist with preparation for external certification audits and customer audits to demonstrate compliance to requirements.
  • Developing training modules and providing training to staff on quality-related topics.
  • Determining and cascading requirements to sub-suppliers for new/changed products and processes.
  • Conduct Planning for part approvals as per documented processes.
  • Plan for supplier performance/systems evaluations and establishment of supplier development plans.
  • Analysis and Reporting of Quality Performance.
  • Establish Supplier Quality Objectives and developing/ implement monitoring processes to ensure supplier performance is monitored and requirements met
  • Capture daily receiving quality performance and report at periodic meetings/communication boards (War room meetings)
  • Validating data integrity of results captured at receiving and supplied by sub-suppliers (COCs / Material Certificates)
  • Analysis supplier quality performance using suitable statistical and analytical tools and techniques.
  • Conduct and Analyse Supplier Risk Assessment data to determine to monitor required.
  • Analyse customer complaints data and communicate with Quality Engineer for Corrective/preventive actions required.
  • Update Registers and track actions to close issues.
  • Compile quality performance reports / KPI reports / QOS as per Procedure.
  • Planning for and ensuring Quality.
  • Participating with development of new/changed product Quality Plans in conjunction with the cross-functional team to determine/cascade sub-supplier requirements.
  • Developing/ Revising and implementing Receiving Inspection Control Plans and instructions to ensure quality of incoming products.
  • Has the authority to reject received products/services if noncompliance is detected and return products to suppliers. Ensuring received product validation as per the Receiving Quality plan and customer requirements.
  • Ensuring externally provided products/services
  • are approved prior to volume production as per OEM/ P&A/ Inter-Company process requirements (e.g. PPAP) and Approval of Packages (Documents) retained.
  • Ensuring suppliers products / services are approved prior to volume production as per OEM /P&A / inter company process requirements PSW / PPAP
  • Assist with selection and approval of Sub Suppliers
  • Conduct Supplier 2nd party audits as per plan
  • Develop Suppliers as per development plan
  • Auditing Internal Business Processes on time as defined in the Audit Process and Audit Plan.
  • Ensure gaps are recorded, corrective action established, progress to close gaps tracked and results reported to Management.
  • Assist with preparation of Management Reviews as required. Receiving Inspection self-inspections at periodic intervals to ensure compliance with the documented process.
  • Ensuring measurement equipment used by the receiving inspector are calibrated and in good condition.
  • Ensuring compliance to MSA (measurement systems analysis) requirements relevant to receiving inspection.
  • Ensuring corrective / preventive action on supplier quality issues are taken as per documented processes/procedures (fast response problem solving/ 8D).
  • Track supplier feedback and ensure actions taken are appropriate to the nature of the gaps identified.
  • Manage customer complaints / corrective action registers.
  • Track actions and ensure effective closeout.
  • Escalate overdue actions and report results to Management monthly or when overdue actions are detected.
  • Ensure compliance to customer specific requirements (P&A / OEMs)
  • Ensuring Planned Supplier 2nd party Audits and self-assessments are conducted as per plan, results reported and used as input into the Supplier Development Plan
  • Interaction, quality assurance support to the product development (R&D) team, logistics team, quality and production team with new launch projects and overview and meeting quality compliance.
  • Following the Engineering Change Management protocols and updating of such within the electronic capturing system and ensuring tasks are met.
  • Responsibility for the Quality wall meeting customer requirements, provide training to the externally provided services, considering production output but also quality output from the quality wall.
  • Taking the lead for the waste yard, ensuring only scrapped parts out of the system is generated at the scrap yard meeting the quality requirements and sign off process approval and ensuring only traceable parts are being scrapped within the system. 
  • Identifying and initiating Quality improvement opportunities.
  • Implementing best practice and lessons learned across processes and projects.
  • Leading role of problem solving of customer concerns and plant quality issues
  • Monitoring implementation and effectiveness of Corrective and Preventive Actions where necessary.
