POSITION INFO:
Job Purpose:
To provide accurate cost management, budgeting, and financial control on electrical projects from inception to completion. The Quantity Surveyor will ensure that all electrical installations and projects are completed within budget, in compliance with specifications, and contribute to profitable project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities (BoQs), and tender documentation for electrical projects.
- Review project drawings, technical specifications, and scope of works to assess materials and labor requirements.
- Track project budgets, monitor variations, and prepare cost reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage project cash flow, forecast expenditures, and monitor actual costs against budgeted amounts.
- Conduct site measurements, valuations, and progress claims on a regular basis.
- Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and procurement teams for price comparisons and contract negotiations.
- Analyze and value subcontractor and supplier quotations for accuracy and compliance with specifications.
- Prepare and submit payment applications, claims, and final accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of project tender submissions and pricing strategies.
- Identify potential financial risks, cost-saving opportunities, and ensure commercial compliance throughout project life cycles.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- National Diploma or BSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
- Additional training or certifications in electrical engineering or MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) works is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of Quantity Surveying experience in the electrical or construction industry.
- Proven experience with electrical contracting, installations, and MEP project environments.
- Familiarity with SANS regulations, NEC/FIDIC contracts, and construction contract law.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel, CCS Candy, BuildSmart, or similar cost estimation software.
- Good understanding of electrical systems and technical drawings.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
