SUMMARY:
Our client based in Fourways is looking for a RAN & Network Tech Director to proactively communicate and develop RAN/Network technology evolution roadmap, as it pertains to the Company and their key customers.

POSITION INFO:

Summary:

Telecommunications network technology innovation is creating significant opportunities and challenges. As a leader in mobile infrastructure, the Company has a strong focus on applying knowledge and insight of radio frequency capability and technologies to address these new opportunities and challenges. The RAN & Network Tech. Director will contribute expertise and technical acumen to support new opportunity evaluation; refining RAN aspects of their customer commercial contracts; drive RAN-as-a-service/Network-as-a-service operational project rollouts; and develop network planning tools to improve their new sites selection processes (BTF).

The incumbent will have significant RF-related technology engineering and/or RF-related experience. Working cross-functionally across their Operations, Innovation, Financial, & Commercial teams, and wireless ecosystem partners; the incumbent will provide a level of technical depth and insight to support new RF-related initiatives and opportunities. The latter includes various Radio Access Network opportunities at the macro- and small cell layers of the network, transmission technologies in mobile and broadcast, wireless backhaul solutions, and many new, emerging technologies with the potential to enhance or disrupt the current wireless infrastructure ecosystem.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) across multiple RF-associated disciplines, including RF planning, RAN Network technology (Including 5G), broadcast, backhaul and broadband for the Company
  • Apply RF knowledge and experience to translate technical performance data into commercially relevant and actionable information
  • Utilize a deep understanding of the RAN and RF capabilities to support the operational deployment of radio-ready infrastructure products that can be used to house next generation technologies based on customer needs
  • Proactively communicate and develop RAN/Network technology evolution roadmap, as it pertains to the Company and their key customers, to all internal organizational levels, including global teams.
  • Develop and improve network / RF Planning tools to support the Commercial and In-Country teams new sites selection process (BTF) – directly aimed at increasing customer conversion rate (colocations)
  • Design, simulate and/or demonstrate telecommunications technology concepts, including enhancements to existing products
  • Analyze and assess technologies from an RF performance perspective
    • Support the Innovation team to develop concept prototypes, test specifications, and network engineering to drive product releases
    • Keep current on technical developments in the mobile technology area, including the latest network technology activity by the mobile network operators
    • Share knowledge across the organization to improve planning, assessment, and product development
    • Develop & Upskill the Company’s Country teams’ RAN/RF competencies to meet their respective Innovation & Commercial KPIs
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • In-depth experience and expertise in developing and designing RF and/or Radio Network technologies
  • Ability to translate technical material into concepts to facilitate the collaboration with other inter- disciplinary teams
  • Effective and persuasive communicator for internal and external audiences, both technical and commercial
  • Exceptional strategic and problem-solving skills to effectively influence decision making in key business decisions
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated; able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify high quality solutions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a concentration in Engineering or Computer Science preferred
  • Experience working in African markets
  • A minimum of 7 years of industry experience, with at least 3 years in an engineering capacity focused on RF or radio network technology design required
  • Solid technical background with understanding of and experience with wireless technology (e.g., 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, small cells) strongly preferred
  • Wireless telecommunication industry experience preferred
  • Track record of working with cross-functional teams
  • Project and change management skills are essential
