SUMMARY:
Successfull company is looking for a junior Food Scientist to join their team in the NPD sector.
The selected candidate will report directly to the R&D Manager and will work on new or existing projects delegated to them. Occasionally, the candidate is required to visit grocery stores when sourcing raw materials and/or sourcing of reference samples.

POSITION INFO:
REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc Food Science degree or related field required essential
  • Minimal experience (1-2 years) in a similar role will be advantageous.
  • Candidate must have own transport.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own and execute new product development from concept to commercialization.
  • Improve existing products upon client’s request.
  • Lead product development discussions and product reviews to collaborate on next steps and align on critical decisions needed to meet project/client’s timelines.
  • Formulate recipes and conduct kitchen trials.
  • Direct and support sourcing of new raw materials.
  • Ensure client product development testing and commercialization, cost, and feasibility target is met.
  • Directly reports to R&D Manager and collaborates with cross functional team including procurement, finance, food safety and quality to ensure innovate client focused new products and solutions.
  • Execute sensory analysis and conduct chemical specification, product specification and raw material specifications.
  • Brief costing of raw materials and final product.
  • System update on new products or improved existing products.
  • Provide onsite support for specified factory trials, first production and troubleshooting.
  • Request information from suppliers for new raw materials & complete raw materials sign off sheet, product spec, ISO /HACCP/ BRC certificates, allergen statement, GMO statement, Halaal certificate, food grade status declaration.
  • Develop new and improved methods to improve quality of foods, such as flavour, colour, texture, convenience, and shelf life.
 
KEY SKILLS:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good team-working abilities
  • The ability to work independently
  • Meticulous attention to detail, especially regarding food hygiene and safety
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
