Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Radio Frequency (RF) Maintenance Technician to join our technical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of RF systems and equipment used in communication networks. This includes VHF/UHF radios, microwave links, antenna systems, and related hardware across operational sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance on RF communication systems, including antennas, repeaters, transmitters, and receivers.
- Diagnose and resolve faults in RF signal transmission, reception, and quality using appropriate test equipment.
- Install and configure RF equipment and supporting infrastructure, such as coaxial cables, grounding systems, and towers.
- Perform on-site inspections and equipment calibration to ensure optimal performance and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, service reports, and equipment inventory.
- Support emergency fault response and after-hours technical assistance when required.
- Collaborate with engineering and IT teams during equipment upgrades and network expansion projects.
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety regulations, company policies, and ICASA/FCC guidelines.
- Keep up to date with evolving RF technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
Minimum Requirements:
- N6 Certificate / Diploma in Electronics, Telecommunications, or related field.
- 3–5 years experience in RF system maintenance, preferably in telecommunications, mining, or broadcasting.
- Valid Driver’s License (Code 08 or above) and willingness to travel to remote sites.
- Strong knowledge of RF theory, propagation, and frequency management.
- Proficiency with RF diagnostic tools (e.g., spectrum analyzers, VSWR meters, signal generators).
- Familiarity with safety procedures for working at heights and with RF exposure.
- Computer literacy (MS Office, reporting software).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in RF/Microwave Engineering or related discipline.
- Working knowledge of digital radio systems (e.g., DMR, TETRA, LTE).
- Experience working in high-site or field-based environments.
Working Conditions:
- Field-based work requiring occasional travel to high-sites, towers, and remote areas.
- Rotational standby and after-hours support may be required.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety harnesses for elevated work.
