Ensure that all packaging and carbon dioxide meet stringent food safety, quality, regulatory & customer
standards. Contributing to the production of high-quality raw materials
Job Purpose
Monitoring, testing, and verifying the quality of preforms, closures and CO2 throughout the production
process to prevent defects, ensure compliance with specifications, and minimize business risks. Conduct
inspections and analyses to maintain product consistency, traceability, and adherence to customer and
legal requirements, ultimately protecting the brand's reputation and consumer safety.
Key Accountabilities and Outputs
Raw Material Inspection
- Conduct inspection of raw materials received pertaining to the manufacture of preforms and closures
- Ensuring compliance to buying specifications
- Ensure that resin conforms to IV and AA standards
- Raise NCRs pertaining to any deviations/nonconformities with raw materials such as resin
Finished Product Evaluation
Preforms
- Conduct tests on preforms to determine weight and length conform to specification
- Test for ovality, IV and AA
- Inspect preforms for defects such as cracks, holes or perforations, damaged thread finish, broken/cracked neck flange, presence of foreign materials, haziness and other defects
- Inspect preforms for defects such as nicks, warping, or dimensional inaccuracies that could affectblow-moulding and sealing.
- Perform Sensory Analysis for foreign odours and ensure colour conforms to standard
Closures
- Measure preforms to determine height, weight, external diameter
- Perform secure seal testing
- Perform Sensory Analysis for foreign odours and ensure colour conforms to standard
- Inspect preforms to check for ovality, integrity of the ID safety band, pilfer band and inner seal plug
- Where closures are branded, ensure that the branding is legible, clear and centred
- Inspect for scratched or blurred graphics
- Inspect closures to ensure there are no cracked or deformed shells and other defects
- Test closures for ovality, liner integrity, seal strength, and application torque to prevent leaks or tampering.
Carbon Dioxide
- Perform hourly analysis of purity and ensure compliance to SANS 532 and ISBT standards
- Perform analysis for impurities
- Monitor CO2 process efficiency
- Perform sensory analysis and escalate any off odours and any foreign bodies to Operations
- In process checks on operational efficiencies of the boiler and burner
Document Control and Record Keeping
- Ensure the accurate and complete compilation of all records and control of documentation
Verification
- Verify that preforms, closures, and related materials conform to specifications, recording batch numbers for traceability and reporting any non-conformances to supervisors.
Process Control
- Ensure that the manufacturing process remains within specification
- Any deviations from the manufacturing process is investigated for the root cause and the appropria
