Renewable / Gas Technical Project Development Designer Wanted in JHB

Reports To: Business Development Manager

Location: Sandton, Johannesburg

Summary:

We are looking for a Technical Project Development Designer who will analyse new project opportunities, assist in securing relevant permits licenses consents and approvals required for projects. The ideal incumbent will have experience in project development in the PV / Wind power generation industry.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

ü Desktop identification and selection of potential sites for the development of a wind or solar energy facility

ü Assessment of project’s grid access and available grid capacity of the identified potential project(s)

ü Reviewing of competitor projects’ location, grid connection options and ranking comparison with our projects

ü Responsible for deed searches on new farm portions for proposed projects

ü Assessment of wind and solar resource using WindPro, Vortex PVsyst and Solargis or similar

ü Develops relationships and liaise with, regulators and utilities in order to obtain the relevant generation license and grid connection approvals

ü Assist the Business Development Manager with bid preparation in order to ensure compliant bids.

ü Conduct in the performance of risk assessments related to the projects, including constructability and grid connection risks, permitting and environmental risks and corresponding mitigation strategies.

ü Tracking of project developments in the pipeline and of any competitors in the market.

ü Development of internal reports detailing the departmental targets, pipeline and progress.

ü Assists the development team with grid integration activities

ü Responsible in procurement of third-party consultants to perform grid studies during the development phases of the projects

ü Drafts project Cost Estimate Letter applications and ensures the timeously submission to potential for projects in the development phase

ü Gather technical information for the application and securing of relevant permits licenses consents and approvals required for projects to be compliant to local regulations.

ü Conduct Site visits and secure land for project to enable project site development

ü Designs and creates project specific maps using Planet GIS, Google Earth, ArcGIS or similar to establish project boundaries for internal and external use

ü Compiling of bid requirements and coordination of various team’s responsibilities and tasks ahead of submission

ü Liaises with entities to whom the bid will be submitted for clarifications, queries and requirements

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

1. At least 3 - 5 years’ experience in the Power Generation industry.
2. At least 2 - 3 years’ experience technical role in a renewable energy project development environment.
3. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferable ( Electrical, Mechanical)
4. Experience in using Autocad, WindPro, Vortex PVsyst and Solargis or similar
5. Previous work in a EPC company, Energy developer is preferred
6. Valid Driver’s Licence
