Research Administrator (10 Months Contract) Human Genetics

Main purpose of the job:

• To provide administrative support to the DDD-Africa project related to procurement, finance, and research reporting

Location:

• NHLS, 147 De Korte Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

Financial and procurement administration

• Provide suppliers with relevant compliance and payment information
• Correspond the amounts of quotations with that of invoices received
• Make relevant copies of documentation and correspondence
• Forward documentation to WHC Finance
• Inspect, verify and check delivered goods and stock
• Obtain quotations when purchasing consumables, equipment, and/or arranging conference events within the budgetary guidelines
• Obtain three quotes if consumables and/or equipment when applicable
• Place orders timeously with chosen suppliers
• Check invoices for VAT registration numbers and purchase order numbers to ensure compliance with donor policies
• Complete payment requests and check the correctness thereof
• Follow through on the purchase requisition order process by obtaining a signature for approval

Research Administration

• Maintain and update project documentation
• Compile ad hoc administration i.e. compiling memos and other correspondence
• Assist the project researcher and PI in donor reporting

Required minimum education and training:

• Honors degree in an appropriate science field (Human Genetics, Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, etc.)

Required minimum work experience:

• 1 year relevant work experience in a research or academic environment

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Must be computer literate, specifically in the use of Microsoft Office
• Must have a basic understanding of finance and statistics
• Good interpersonal skills, self-motivated, organized and meticulous
• Must be self-motivated
• Scientific writing skills would be advantageous
• Ability to prioritize own workload to meet deadlines
• Able to maintain confidentiality and act tactfully
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff members and liaise effectively with suppliers and providers
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
