A Research Assistant (Doctor or Nurse) - 12 Months Part-Time Contract vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in Johannesburg - Gauteng.

POSITION INFO:

Background

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.

Main purpose of the job

• Assist with the setup and implementation of research projects and clinical trials

Location

• Johannesburg Paediatrics and Neonatology- Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital 

Key performance areas

• Clinical duties
• Bayley neurodevelopmental assessments (training will be given)
• Blood draws (adults, children and neonates) & other sample taking
• IP or other drug administration (IV, IM, or subcut)
• Clinic visits for trial participants – vital signs and general assessments
• AE and concomitant medication assessments
• Any other ad hoc clinical duties covered within the scope of practice as required
• Neonatal Resuscitation if required
• Research duties
• Screening, recruiting and consenting patients
• Patient file preparation, completion, maintenance, and checking
• AE and concomitant medication reporting
• Understanding and implementing new research protocols
• Labeling and storage of samples
• Comply with regulatory requirements and assist with documentation if required
• Ad hoc investigator site file maintenance
• Data duties
• Data collection- from hospital files, physical assessments/vital signs and any other valid source notes
• Data entry
• Data quality checks
• Data query resolution
• Data verification
• Report generation
• Protocol development & Writing assistance/editing if necessary
• Ad hoc office duties as required (Filing, scanning, and photocopying, etc.)

Required minimum education and training

• Required: Medical degree (MBBCh) or Nursing degree (BNurs) or Clinical Associate degree (BCMP)
• HPCSA or SANC registered
• Current MPS or other medical malpractice insurance required
• Basic computer literacy required

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

• GCP trained
• Experience using REDCap
• Trained in neonatal resuscitation
• Clinical research training
• Excellent organizational skills
• Familiarity with PPE donning and doffing
• Understanding of confidentiality and trial participant rights
• Good problem-solving skills
• Be a team player able to work with colleagues and sponsors with professionalism
• Reliable with good timekeeping
• Must be thorough and result-driven with a positive work attitude
• Excellent attention to detail and clear, accurate record-keeping (GCP compliant)
• Able to work independently and take initiative

Required minimum work experience

• At least 1 year of work experience
