SUMMARY:
Research Assistant Trainees (12 Months Fixed Term Contract) x 30 vacancies are available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in KwaZulu-Natal.

POSITION INFO:

Background

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.

The E-MOTIVE research programme is seeking to deliver a reduction in morbidity and mortality from postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).  Every six minutes a mother dies from PPH in low-resource countries, in the prime of her life and often leaving behind a young family. When a mother dies in childbirth, her infant has less than a 20% chance of surviving past the first month. This programme will focus on addressing this shocking statistic and study women giving birth in healthcare facilities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Africa and Asia.

This initial investment is for three years and will build capacity through a collaboration of institutions across the globe led by the University of Birmingham.  It will focus on undertaking a cluster randomised trial across 80 health facilities involving 330,000 women. The numerous activities will be conducted in a coordinated fashion according to a protocol and project plan by the central coordinating hub in Birmingham (UK) supported by international partners, country coordinating centres in each of the participating countries, and local teams in each of the 80 hospitals. Specific tasks will be carried out by specialist teams at the World Health Organization (WHO), Jhpiego, Centre for Behavioural Change (UCL), University of California, Ammalife Charity, and Concept Foundation.

The E-MOTIVE research programme is seeking to hire the services of a Research intern to be based within Emotive KZN or Eastern Cape or Western Cape sites. The Research Intern will work closely with the Research Midwife, Study Coordinator, Data Manager and Principal Investigator based within the national coordinating Hub of the participating country. The Research Intern will ensure that the trial is run according to the protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and local regulatory requirements.
