Research Centre Manager: Photonics

SUMMARY:
Our client a leading scientific and technology research organisation has an opportunity available for a Research Centre Manager in Photonics.  This position is based in the Pretoria area.

POSITION INFO:
Education and Experience Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in science or engineering or any related to Photonics
• At least ten years’ experience in the field of Photonics
• A track record of working with the Photonics industry
• A track record of Photonics product development
• General management experience in a complex R&D environment including dimensions of financial management and people management
• Deep knowledge and product development experience in at least one Photonics related market segment

• Deep awareness of global trends and market opportunities for current and new technologies in the Photonics sector
• Establish strategic partnerships with the local and international Photonics industry
• Position current technologies/offerings as well as develop relevant future technologies/offerings for the growth and success of industry
• Work with business development and commercialisation teams to secure local and international opportunities and industry investment
• Enable demographic transformation of the Photonics Centre in line with national objectives
• Management of the research centre by being accountable for financial sustainability, operations, performance, compliance to health and safety standards as well as the establishment of quality initiatives where required
