SUMMARY:
A Research Co-ordinator vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (RHI) in Lejweleputswa - Free State.

POSITION INFO:

Background

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges.

It is located within the University of the Witwatersrand and addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health and vaccinology. This is done through pioneering, multi-disciplinary research; responsive technical support and innovation in health services; and evidence-based policy development and advocacy with national, regional and global stakeholders.

Main purpose of the job

  • To assist in co-ordination of research activities and stakeholder engagement for the division of research in Lejweleputswa, Free State

Location

  • Lejweleputswa, Free State

Key performance areas

  • Supervise and Co-ordinate activities of research teams
  • Ensure we are following the organizational SOPs on recruitment
  • Organise, attend and facilitate meetings with the Community Advisory Board (CAB) and individuals
  • Monitor the on-going activities of the Community Advisory Group (CAB) including the planning of meetings and training of the CAB
  • Organise events
  • Stakeholder mapping and engagement
  • Compile and circulate Weekly Plan
  • Assist in liaising with DOH and distract staff members, internal collaborations with the APACE team and community members
  • Compile daily, weekly and monthly reports as needed
  • Co-ordinate research activities across research projects in the Free state
  • Collate and formalise all possible cross-functional efforts to achieve study objectives and goals
  • Liaise with all stakeholders within the organisation at all levels of the business in order to meet programme goals
  • Escalate all relevant issues to the required and respective line authorities including P.I, Sponsor and others as required using the correct medium of communication of such as determined by the protocol: e.g. Patient Adverse Events
  • Manage and facilitate study meetings as required for staff and Sponsors
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership for driving your own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities
  • Attend to all staffing requirements and administration
  • Supervise and manage the duties of subordinates to ensure optimal staff utilisation and maintenance of sound labour relations
  • Perform and facilitate performance development and assessments
  • Identify substandard performance by team members and take necessary corrective action
  • Coach and train subordinates and team members to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the organisation
  • Promote harmony, teamwork and sharing of information

Required minimum education and training

  • Diploma Nursing degree with an advanced diploma in Midwifery, Community Nursing Science and PHC
  • NIMART trained or similar relevant degree

Professional body registration

  • South African Nursing Council (SANC) with PHC, Midwifery and/or Community Health
  • Advanced post-graduate diploma or degree in Social Behavior Studies in HIV / AIDS

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Diploma in Nursing Administration or Public Administration
  • Monitoring and Evaluation of programs performance
  • Training in Effective Supervisory Skills and using Health Information
  • Excellent communication skills and good telephone etiquette
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and discretion at all times
  • Ability to work in a poorly resourced environment
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders

Required minimum work experience

  • 5-7 years working experience
  • 3-5 Years Staff Management experience at a Management level
  • 5 years’ experience at a high-level managerial position within DoH structures in Lejweleputsa
  • Working experience within the region
  • Some experience in research `design, data collection, analyses and extensive experience working with DoH at District, School Health and Community levels
