Research Nurse x 2 vacancies are available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (RHI) in Hillbrow, Johannesburg - Gauteng.

POSITION INFO:

Background

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges.

It is located within the University of the Witwatersrand and addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health and vaccinology. This is done through pioneering, multi-disciplinary research; responsive technical support and innovation in health services; and evidence-based policy development and advocacy with national, regional and global stakeholders.

Main purpose of the job

• To provide best practice data collection, clinical assessments, collection of specimens and care, according to protocols and to provide pre-and post-test HIV counseling

Location

• Shandukani Research Centre - Hillbrow, Johannesburg

Key performance areas

• Inform participants about the study
• Obtain informed consent according to SOPs and screen potential participants
• Conduct pre- and post-HIV test Counselling (if needed)
• Draw blood from participants, process samples as required and send samples or specimens to the laboratory
• Obtain vital signs and conduct special investigations e.g., ECG, Rapids, etc.
• Administer study questionnaires/interviews
• Inform participants of test results, as required
• Provide appropriate health education and counseling where necessary
• Refer participants to alternative care if necessary
• Take responsibility for the Emergency Contact Research cell phone, during the delegated time period
• Taking of the minutes for weekly research team meetings
• Ensure labs are printed, converted, graded, and reviewed by an investigator prior to CRF completion, according to SOPs
• Collect participant data from medical notes and complete CRFs
• Maintain full clinical records for all participants
• Maintain an inventory of laboratory samples
• Perform sample related activities such as but not limited to labeling, storage, collection, and completion of DCF’s
• Compile relevant reports and feedback on all activities
• Quality control CRFs and other study documents
• Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
• Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
• Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback

• Take ownership for driving your own career development in attending training and development sessions and relevant meetings

Required minimum education and training

• Diploma in General Nursing (3 years)

• A valid driver’s license

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

• A diploma in Primary Health Care or similar will be an advantage
• Certification in good clinical practice
• Experience in a research environment
• Experience in paediatrics

Required minimum work experience

• Minimum 1-year of nursing experience in HIV
