Research Nurses x 2 (Contract) Wits RHI (Free State)

Main purpose of the job:

• To provide best practice data collection, clinical assessments, collection of specimens, and care according to protocols, and to provide pre-and post-test HIV counseling

Location:

• Free State (Lejweleputswa district) (Welkom)

Key performance areas:

• Inform participants about the study
• Screen potential participants and obtain informed consent according to SOPs
• Administer study questionnaires/interviews
• Conduct pre and post-HIV test Counselling
• Community sensitization on HPV research activities
• Instruct and assist patients in self-collection of HPV specimens
• Able to take participants through the informed consent process
• Draw blood from participants and send samples or specimens to the laboratory
• Conduct physical examinations
• Perform HIV and pregnancy bedside tests
• Inform participants of test results
• Treat diagnosis according to test results and sexually transmitted disease according to syndromic management guidelines or laboratory diagnoses
• Provide appropriate health education and adherence counseling where necessary
• Abstraction of data from participant medical records
• Storage and archiving of data according to SOPs (electronic and hard copy data)
• Adherence to study protocols, GCP, and local requirements for the ethical conduct of research in human participants
• Support the team with any other research-related activities
• Provide SRH and PHC care as needed
• Complete all relevant project administration as and when required (i.e., participant reimbursements)
• Refer participants to alternative care if necessary
• Collect participant data from medical notes and complete CRFs
• Maintain full clinical records for all participants
• Perform sample-related activities such as labeling, storage, and collection
• Compile relevant reports and feedback on all activities
• Quality control CRFs and other study documents
• Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
• Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained

Required minimum education and training:

• Diploma in General Nursing (3 years)

Required minimum work experience:

• Minimum 1-year of nursing experience in STI/HIV research

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• A diploma in Primary Health Care or similar will be an advantage
• Certification in good clinical practice
• Experience in a research environment
• Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
• Be tactful, respectful, and maintain confidentiality
• Good administrative skills together with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Respectful with sound work ethic
