Researchers (Junior) x 2 (18 Months Fixed Term Contract)

Main purpose of the job:

• To measure and examine features of the built and food environment to meet the overall research objectives of the GDAR spaces project

Location:

• DPHRU - Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

• Use data collection tools (i.e. REDCap) to examine the constructs of the built and natural environment relevant to diet, physical activity, and climate change
• Capture and clean data
• Maintain effective communication with the project team on an ongoing basis
• Conduct data analysis as and when required

Required minimum education and training:

• Honours degree in Public Health, Spatial Epidemiology or Equivalent

Required minimum work experience:

• 1-2 years’ work experience in public health or research (experience with spatial mapping will be an added advantage)

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Excellent writing skills
• Advanced computer literacy
• Willingness to work independently and within a team
• Willingness to travel
• Knowledge of sound ethical practice in the conduct of research
• Excellent organizational skills
