Risk Manager

SUMMARY:
A leading manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Risk Manager to lead and coordinate its Risk Management Department. This role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks while ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, Security, Fire & Emergency Preparedness standards, and overseeing ISO certification requirements (OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001).

POSITION INFO:
Location: KwaZulu-Natal - South Coast Umkoomaz

Reporting to: Plant Manager
Industry: Paper & Pulp / Manufacturing

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage the risk department business plan, including personnel, assets, equipment, vehicles, and insurance.
• Set KPIs for team members, conduct performance reviews, and foster continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements through audits, corrective actions, and risk assessments.
• Maintain the Integrated Management System (IMS) and lead ISO certification efforts.
• Oversee emergency preparedness, including drills, crisis management, and employee training.
• Implement safety behaviour programs and promote a culture of accountability and risk awareness.
• Liaise with insurers, legal advisers, and internal stakeholders on risk and compliance matters.
• Monitor occupational hygiene exposures and recommend continuous improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Environment, or a related field.
• 5–8 years post-graduation experience in SHE, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and licensing processes.
• Strong computer literacy (MS Office Suite).
• Experience in a manufacturing plant is essential.
