SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER

SUMMARY:
Our client a leading  Electronics Manufacturer, located in Pinetown, South Africa, a specialist in electronics manufacturing, engineering services and supply chain solutions.

POSITION INFO:
Position Overview:
The Senior Design Engineer will be a key member of the Research and Development department, responsible for the design, development, qualification, and implementation of electronic hardware and embedded software projects.

Purpose of the Role:
The role requires ensuring all designs meet customer specifications, company standards, and global regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in electronic hardware and embedded software design and development.
• Expertise in embedded C or similar languages for microcontroller development.
• Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), preferably Linux.
• Knowledge of automotive technologies and IoT product development.
• Advanced proficiency in mathematics, including calculus, for design and analysis.
• Experience with MATLAB for simulations and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in ECAD tools, particularly Altium, for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Strong understanding of EMC design considerations and signal/power integrity analysis.
• Familiarity with ARM and PIC processors for firmware development.
• Basic mechanical design knowledge and 3D prototyping skills.
• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills for hardware and software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with various stakeholders

• Perform research, design, development, integration, and testing of hardware and embedded software for new products.

• Lead and participate in design review sessions.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external technology partners to achieve project objectives.

• Prepare production data packs and set-to-work new hardware.
• Enhance the manufacturability of products in development and production.

• Debug and correct issues in hardware and software for both new and existing products.
• Provide troubleshooting support to resolve technical challenges efficiently.

• Develop and execute testing procedures for product certification and high-volume production readiness.
• Ensure products meet all required standards and certifications.

• Draft comprehensive technical documentation, including manuals, specifications, and reports.

• Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders, including sales, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.
