JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Faculty of Health Sciences seeks an accomplished academic to join our Natural and Rehabilitative Sciences Department. The appointment will be made at the level of Senior Lecturer.
Reporting to the Head of Department, this academic leadership lecturing position contributes to the Faculty's academic department teaching and learning, and research objectives. The successful candidate will take a leading role in clinical education coordination and module teaching within the undergraduate SLP programme, bringing expertise in at least one of the following areas: fluency disorders, early communication intervention, voice disorders, aural rehabilitation, child and adult language disorders, or telehealth in speech-language pathology. Alongside their teaching responsibilities, they will contribute meaningfully to research, postgraduate supervision, internationalization, and community engagement in alignment with the strategic objectives of the Faculty and the University.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Contributes to faculty academic department teaching & learning, and research
- Plan, implement, and oversee clinical education placements and student supervision
- Maintain and develop clinical partnerships with placement sites and community stakeholders
- Contribute to departmental research outputs and supervise postgraduate students
- Participate in curriculum review, moderation, and assessment development
- Engage with Faculty and University committee structures as required
- Support internationalization and community engagement initiatives of the Department
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: - Doctoral Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a closely related field
- Professional registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in the category of Speech Therapist/Speech Therapist & Audiologist
- At least 3 years’ experience in higher education
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research experience
- Experience in clinical education coordination or clinical supervision of SLP students
- A record of accredited research publications commensurate with the academic rank of Senior Lecturer
- Postgraduate supervision experience including successful Masters/Doctoral supervision, commensurate with the academic rank of Senior Lecturer
