SUMMARY:
Our client, an International logistics company, currently seeks a SHEQ Manager to manage the company's Q&HSE compliance environment, and provide strategic and operational leadership to guarantee an effective and efficient QHSE system to promote a safe and healthy work environment while complying with all relevant legislation, codes of good practice and fulfilling customer expectations.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Safety and/or Environment, or related fields.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in defining and managing QHSE compliance systems.
  • Minimum 5 years’ in a management position.
  • Working knowledge of relevant South African legislation, applicable SANS codes, best practice guidelines and corporate governance.

Key Performance Indicators:

QHSE:

  • Manage QHSE risk.
  • Ensure that all incidents relevant to QHSE are reported, investigated, corrected and learning’s disseminated.
  • Ensure that all incidents are reported to the correct stakeholders in terms of all contractual agreements and legal obligations.
  • Ensure that all relevant environmental authorizations, operating licenses/permits are applied for and are up-to-date and compliance to conditions is monitored.
  • Ensure the company remains compliant with all applicable HSE legislation and other requirements to which the company subscribes.
  • Monitor QHSE performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports.
  • Understand current and proposed HSE legislation and enforce regulations.
  • Update QHSE policies and procedures as and when required (i.e. changes in legal or customer requirements). Make recommendations for any changes in operational procedures which will improve safe working conditions.
  • Ensure that all legal appointments are in place in terms of applicable legislation.
  • Provide QHSE support and information as required.
  • Drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain the occupational health management and monitoring programme.
  • Manage all HSE site surveys and assessments.
  • Drive the culture of quality, health, safety and environment by raising awareness of QHSE throughout the company through various initiatives, communication plans and training.
  • Manage all QHSE related training requirements.
  • Effectively manage contractor HSE performance.
  • Assess the organizations current sustainability performance, identify and prioritize the organizations key sustainability strategies, i.e. drive energy efficiencies, resource recovery, reduce waste and increase efficiencies, carbon footprints, etc.
  • Responsible for developing adequate plans / controls to prevent pollution, respond to emergencies and ensure business continuity.
  • Manage all external QHSE audits.

Quality:

  • Review customer requirements.
  • Work with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers.
  • Define quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff.
  • Set up and maintain controls and documented procedures.
  • Maintain and enhance internal and external customer relations.
  • Manage customer complaints.

Financial:

  • Provide effective and efficient support to the Operations and Logistics departments so that the business revenue and profit targets are met.
  • Manage the QHSE budget for the business.

Management and Leadership:

  • Develop and execute an effective and efficient QHSE strategy for the business.
  • Provide input from a QHSE perspective into the company’s business plans and strategic objectives.
  • Set standards and overall objectives for QHSE.
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of a QHSE Management System for the business.
  • Submit monthly management reports as per business requirements.
  • Manage the SHEQ department and ensure that the department has the right structures and resources in place to deliver the necessary QHSE efficiencies.
  • Devise and establish the company’s QHSE procedures, standards and specifications.

People:

  • Mentor, coach and develop employees by building individual and team competencies to meet set goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that team and individual performance objectives are in place, aligned with the company’s strategic objectives and that quarterly performance reviews done.
