Employer Description A reputable legal practice in Johannesburg North. Job Description Our client is seeking a driven and technically strong Junior Litigation Attorney to join its litigation department. We are looking for a well-balanced, confident and commercially aware attorney who takes ownership of their work and is committed to delivering excellent client service. The successful candidate will support the management of litigation matters from inception through to conclusion, providing high-quality legal services to clients while managing case files, drafting legal documentation and conducting legal research. You will be responsible for: Drafting and preparing pleadings, motions and other litigation-related legal documents. Conducting legal research into legislation and case law. Conducting interviews and gathering evidence and information relevant to litigation matters. Managing discoveries and assisting with the preparation and progression of litigation proceedings. Independently arguing motions. Briefing and consulting with counsel where required. Managing and maintaining litigation files, documentation and case management systems. Monitoring case statuses, court dates, hearings and important deadlines. Liaising with clients, correspondent attorneys, counsel and other relevant stakeholders. Communicating with clients via telephone, email, correspondence and in person. Attending relevant courts, authorities and offices as required. Coordinating and collaborating with other attorneys, candidate attorneys and paralegals. Managing client databases and ensuring that information is kept up to date. Preparing case progress reports as required. Assisting with client billing and resolving billing queries in conjunction with the finance department. Maintaining calendars, diaries and other administrative records. Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and requirements relating to litigation matters. Contributing to the efficient management of the department and ensuring that client matters are progressed to successful conclusion as efficiently as possible. Qualifications LLB Degree. Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. 1 - 3 years' post-articles experience. Skills The successful candidate will be a quick learner with strong organisational skills, sound legal judgement and the ability to manage workflow using legal administrative and case management systems, as well as: Relevant litigation experience and strong technical legal ability. Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. Excellent legal drafting and business writing skills. Strong legal research and analytical abilities. Excellent time, diary and file management skills. Ability to work independently with limited supervision once trained. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively under pressure. A professional, confident and solutions-driven approach. Ability to work effectively as both an independent contributor and part of a team. Passion for litigation and the legal profession. A valid driver's licence and\/or own vehicle will be advantageous.
