SQL Developer

SUMMARY:
Our client based in Kwa Zulu-Natal is looking for an SQL Developer to provide senior technical excellence in the administration, management and implementation of business intelligence and database solutions, which requires extensive knowledge on Microsoft based platforms and Microsoft SQL products

POSITION INFO:

Qualification/Experience

• At least 4 years’ experience in Microsoft SQL database administration and maintenance
• At least 6 years’ experience in Microsoft SQL script development
• At least 6 years’ experience in Microsoft SSIS and SSRS development
• Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or related qualification
• Drivers licence
• Experience in application deployment as well as IIS application deployment
• Experience in Linux is advantageous
• Experience in the electronic engineering industry and/or prepaid metering industry is advantageous
• Experience with client facing consulting and/or client training
• Microsoft SQL qualification is advantageous

Responsibilities

• Assist in building an effective Services team
• Assist with ensuring all expenditure on the project is within the agreed budget and look for ways to reduce costs
• Assist with reviewing project activities and costing for Commercial AE proposals
• Collaborate with the development and validation team with respect to changes required for internally developed applications
• Communicate improvement possibilities and participate in improvement initiatives
• Consult and recommend appropriate business solutions with Commercial and PMO Team
• Assist with deployment of Company software solutions
• Deployment testing of internally developed applications to ensure production readiness prior to applications and databases being rolled out to customers
• Ensure all standard operating procedures are adhered to
• Ensure that project deliverables are of an acceptable standard and will satisfy the requirements and business drivers
• Ensure the timely completion of the project per the original and agreed upon timescales and that all time is logged correctly
• Facilitate compliance to Company policies and procedures
• Identify project risks and advise mitigation measures in place where applicable
• Lead and/or participate in meetings with customers and suppliers for design reviews and to track project status
• Provide day-to-day technical support for all Company and third party products
• Provide guidance and support on project deployments to the Project Engineers and Project Technicians
• Provide technical support to Customers, Company Business Managers and Third Party Suppliers
• Provide technical training to Customers
• Setting up lab environments per customer or tender specifications
• Analyse and manage large complex volumes of data
• Assist with database transaction reconciliations and security audits
• Assist with designing and implementing redundant database systems, policies and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving
• Assist with solutions for disaster recovery and high availability for SQL database systems
• Automate processes and repetitive tasks
• Configure replication and always-on for SQL databases
• Design, deploy and manage data warehouse solutions
• Design, develop, deploy and support business intelligence reports utilizing SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS), QlikSense and QlikView
• Develop procedures and scripts for data integration
• Develop procedures and scripts for data migration
• Develop, implement and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL
• Gather user requirements and create specification documents to be able to manage the development of reports
• Liaise with persons originating, handling, processing or receiving reports to identify problems and to gather suggestions for improvements
• Maintain a repository of reports for internal and external use
• Manage the installation and upgrades of database servers
• Performance tuning and optimization of databases
• Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
• Review and interpret ongoing business report requirements
• Setup performance monitoring and maintenance plans
• Take ownership and ensure high quality, timely delivery of database related projects
• Testing and documenting customer specific reporting
• Constructively participate as a member of the wider Company team
