SUMMARY:
SQL Server Performance Tuning Specialist

POSITION INFO:

We are looking for an experienced SQL Server Performance Tuning Specialist with solid experience in the field of Microsoft SQL server database (SQL Server 2017, on-premise) performance optimisation, pro-active performance and database growth monitoring, and reporting across all of these.

The focus area will be on the detailed configuration settings, identifying and resolving performance bottle necks and assisting with the implementation of a long-term monitoring and maintenance strategy to keep the database running optimally.

Duties and responsibilities:

Review all CCMS SQL server instance configuration setting to identify and remediate any gaps or non-optimal settings.
Review and remediate any current database performance issues:
- Identify any database locking / blocking issues
- Identify regular offending queries causing locks / blocks or any performance bottlenecks
- Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement
- Recommend indexing strategy where applicable or non-optimal
- Review relevant operating system configuration settings that might impact on SQL performance
- Implement a monitoring strategy together with the CCMS team to baseline and measure performance
- Implement automatic notification of any abnormal long running queries, blocks, incomplete jobs.
- Assist with reviewing security configuration and implementation of any gaps / issues identified.
- Track and prioritise issues to be resolved and document all changes and impact thereof.
- Provide regular reports which documents and provide an historical view of:
  - SQL instance configuration and configuration changes
  - CCMS database health and performance statistics, highlighting bottlenecks to action
  - Backup and recovery jobs (successful and failed jobs)

SQL Server DBA requirements and qualifications:

10 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA, working in a development environment or similar role
10 years of experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) with a solid knowledge of SQL Extended Events and Dynamic Management Views.
Solid experience in a development operations environment, interacting with development teams, DBA''s and project managers.
Deadline driven with a sense of ownership and pride in your performance

Great interpersonal and communication skills
