SUMMARY:
To manage the health and safety of the mining projects.

POSITION INFO:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• 3 year degree/3 year diploma (Either specialising in safety, engineering or process/mining) is essential
• Blasting Certificate, Mine Manager & Mine Overseer is essential
• At least 4-6 years relevant experience within a safety environment, or mining/production at an equivalent level.
• Experience as a Safety Officer would be an advantage
• The successful candidate must have a valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain one
COMPETENCIES:
• Knowledge of work-related hazards and associated risks
• Understanding of human behaviour and the impact of cultural differences on human behaviour
• Knowledge of plant- and mining processes
• Impala standards and procedures (including HR policies) knowledge
• Relevant safety legislation, i.e. Mine Health and Safety Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and COID Act
• International Standards (ISO), i.e. OHSAS18000, ISO9001, ISO14001
• Computer literacy and presentation skills
• Facilitation, report writing and auditing skills
• How to conduct a root cause / fault tree analysis (investigation skills)
