Our Client in the Construction / Renewable Energy Industry is seeking a Safety Officer
POSITION INFO:
Safety Officers Description of Position The SHE officer identifies, reviews and evaluates hazards within the work environment; implements the controls and the preventative measures; and prevents injuries resulting from environmental factors.
Qualification, Experience and Technical Requirements • Diploma (3 Yr.): National Diploma Health and Safety or equivalent • Registered with SACPCMP as a Health and Safety Officer (Proof of Registration is required) • 5 Years of experience within a SHE Officer position within Construction • SAMTRAC, NEBOSCH or equivalent certification • Knowledge of the National Environmental Act; Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Traffic Act; Municipal by-laws and company policies and procedures that will need to be followed. • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, materials and products • Understanding and implementing of ISO 9000, 14000 and OHSAS 18001 • Drivers Licence essential. We also require candidates to have renewable energy background, with a valid SACPMP certificate.
Special Knowledge / Skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook • Proficient in Internet Searching and Analysis • Excellent command of English language (including spelling, grammar and punctuation), command of Xhosa language will be an advantage • Ability to deal responsibly with confidential information • Planning, organizing, prioritizing and Time management skills are important • Proficient in analysing numerical, verbal and other sources of information to provide solutions and Reports
Roles and Responsibilities • Implementation of site-specific integrated management system which includes: o Training on site o Ensuring that the correct safety resources are in place as per the Scope of the project o Sub-contractor evaluation of safety plans, ensure requirements are met and signed off once compliant by all employees o Establishing and maintaining Health and Safety Communication Structure o Establish a system for planned task observations o Implement and prepare various Health and Safety files as required by legislation and company policies o Implement, communicate and assess site specific emergency plan • Maintain site-specific Integrated Management System o Identify risk and liability and address non compliance o Improve the site-specific IM System o Compliance to ISO 9000, 14000 and OHSAS 18001 o Maintain site specific legal compliance o Prevent future risk and accidents due to same causes – site incident reports and communication o Ensure on-site safety • Meet legal, company and site-specific requirements o Keep up to date with legal requirements as communicated o Ensure all legal, organisational and site-specific health, safety and environmental requirements are met.
