JOB SUMMARY:
Employer is looking a Safety officer in the mining sector.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Purpose

The fixed term contract position will be responsible for providing safety support and services to the Mining and Construction teams (Lift II Mining and Growth Construction Teams) and related activities.

Minimum requirements

  • Matric
  • National Diploma in Safety Management or relevant qualification.
  • COMSOC 1 and 2, SAMTRAC or other recognized Safety Management qualification.
  • Blasting certification will be advantageous.
  • Good working knowledge of the Processing Plants and or Engineering workshops.
  • ISO 45001, SHEQ auditing, inspections and report writing.
  • Knowledge and use of MS Office software.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the MHSA.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant Plant or Engineering experience.
  • Training and/or experience in accident/incident investigations will be an advantage.
  • Driver’s license - code EB.
  • A valid First Aid certificate will be an advantage.

Main duties

  • Providing a service to the Mining Division by conducting safety inspections in accordance with Regulation 2.19 in the underground mining as well as the development areas of the Lift 2 Projects.
  • Verifying that line management, employees and contractors comply with and apply the requirements of the Mine Health & Safety Act and Regulations, the company''''''''''''''''s SHEQ Management System and any other safety legislation applicable to the mine.
  • Analysis, preparation and presentation of safety data and occupational health data to assigned area of responsibility on a regular basis.
  • Compiling reports and recommendations on the safety and occupational health requirements.
  • Facilitating incident investigation in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Performing safety standby.
  • Assisting with internal SHEQ audits.
  • Facilitating Risk Assessments.

Key competencies

  • Good leadership skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good report writing skills and proficiency in English.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and SAP.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices organizing, leading and control skills.
  • Ability to proactively identify potential hazards, risks and take appropriate action to ensure that work is performed within the safety framework and of safe practices of the company.
