Seafood Market Transformation Officer

Requirements:

• A MSc in Environmental Science, Marine Biology/Environmental Science Management, or related field.
• Some experience in corporate engagement or related field would be advantageous.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience.
• Demonstrable understanding of the seafood industry.
• Ability to simplify complex environmental messages for corporates.
• Good analytical and writing skills.
• Ability to do basic financial management and contracting.
• Ability to deliver results while managing competing priorities under tight deadlines.
• Collaborative spirit and ability to work in team settings across cultures and internally within a diverse institution.
• Computer literacy.
• Can work independently
• Have good interpersonal skills
• Passion for the conservation of nature and the involvement of businesses in the implementation of practical solutions to the challenges facing the marine environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; confident in public speaking fluency in English.
• Driver’s license and own transportation essential.

Responsibilities and expectations but not limited to:

1. Coordinate the Retailer/Supplier Participation Scheme, including:

• Implement the company Retailer/Supplier Participation Scheme:

1. Conduct 2 organizational assessments per participants per year/development of workplans/fulfilling the company workplan activities.
2. Tracking and implementation of the strategy/development of participant species strategies/compiling annual participant progress report.
3. Incentivize and assist in the development and implementation of collaboration amongst actors in the seafood market.
4. Plan and implement the annual seafood symposium in partnership with the Marine Stewardship Council and other partners.
5. Conduct quarterly round table discussions on relevant topics with partners and take forward these outcomes of the round tables.

• Management of the company Retailer/Supplier Participation Scheme finances and participant contracts.
• Revise and implement the long-term company Retailer/Supplier Participation Scheme strategy.
• Assist in project management and related communications of seafood related projects with the company outreach and communications team.
• Work closely with the Marine Science Officer and the Marine Senior scientist manager to ensure that the company database includes the species relevant to the South African market and the assessments conducted are scientifically relevant and rigorous.
• Work closely with the Marine Portfolio’s fisheries team to ensure work is aligned and the company Retailer/Supplier Participation Scheme participants are informed and contribute meaningfully to helping the company meet its strategic outcomes.

2. Lead on the implementation of specifically identified projects in the Marine Portfolio relevant to seafood market transformation and in doing so help the company achieve its strategic outcomes.

3. Support administration, management and implementation of relevant Marine Portfolio and Markets initiatives when necessary.
