SUMMARY:
An industry leader in the mining sector which is based in the NORTH WEST PROVINCE and within the Orkney area, is recruiting for an experienced and skilled Section Engineer

POSITION INFO:

Experience

The successful incumbent must possess at least five years deep level gold mining experience, working at Section Engineer level.

Formal qualifications

  • A minimum of a Degree or National Diploma in Engineering
  • It would be advantageous to have a business qualification and or post-degree qualification
  • Holder of Government Certificate of Competency
    • Valid driving license code 08 
    • A valid medical certificate certifying the incumbent’s fitness status to work on surface and or underground
    • Must have experience regarding working on winders

Responsibilities

  • The Senior Mining Engineer will be responsible for the conditions, duties and responsibilities imposed on Engineers by the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (Act no. 29 of 1996) in respect of the Mine, operations, underground workings and surface areas as indicated on the mine responsibility plans. In addition, the incumbent will also appointed to perform the duties in terms of Regulation 2.13.4.1.
  • All plant and machinery situated underground and on surface
  • All plant and machinery situated at shaft heads, including hoists, fans and compressors.
  • Equipment situated in shaft stores, timber yards, workshops, offices, lamp rooms and change houses.
  • All surface and incline conveyor installations.
  • All surface and underground water reticulation systems
  • Responsible for the safe erection and proper maintenance of all buildings, structures and tanks and the safe design, installation and proper operations, running and maintenance of all equipment and machinery situated on surface and underground at the shaft/s
  • The material handling equipment for waste and reef rock, including chutes, loading systems and conveyor belts situated underground and on surface including the tipping areas and ore passes underground.
  • The reticulation systems for water, compressed air, mud and electricity supply within the underground working areas, access to the working areas, shaft barrel and on surface.
  • Shaft examinations to be conducted twice per year at intervals of not exceeding five months.  The provision of Minerals Act Regulation 16.77 shall also apply to each such examination.
  • The electronic fire detection system and associated components
  • The incumbent will be required to comply with all conditions and requirements of the Mine’s Environmental Policy and Environmental Management Programmes, Procedures, Instructions and Protocols which may be applicable to the area of responsibility.
  • To prevent pollution, to reduce waste at source and to recycle as far as reasonably practicable all redundant materials and equipment for re-use or for re-sale.
  • Plan and ensure that the appropriate engineering practices and systems are implemented to achieve the optimum utilisation of labour, material, budget and equipment
  • To apply and enforce the provisions of the MHSA relating to the role
  • Develop and define the required performance policies and standards (including codes of practice)
  • Ensure that subordinate managers and supervisors are empowered to respond to any operational need that arises
  • Institutionalise the required management practices within the department to plan, review and manage the rendering of services in order to ensure that the Plants are fully operational
  • Ensure that the appropriate corrective actions are taken in order to remedy any identified or possible deficiencies
  • Compile and submit an Engineering Budget
  • Ensure mine standards and procedures are implemented and complied with
  • Take charge of large breakdowns or shutdowns
