SUMMARY:
Section Engineer for Rustenburg Open Pit Mine

POSITION INFO:

The Section Engineer ensures legal compliance, provide direction in terms of all engineering aspects, and implement engineering strategies and policies whilst ensuring effective asset management for the department. The role is responsible for translating the maintenance strategy into a section action plan, which ensures alignment with the company strategy.

Role Context

• To ensure Health Safety and Environment compliance as per MHSA and overall compliance to all laws, by-laws and regulations relevant to the function;
• Finds the most effective means of maintenance and repairs; Conducts analysis regarding cost, time and impact on production; Responsible for conducting cost analysis when comparing repairs vs. replacement parts; Ensures work orders are accurately completed for each repair and records kept; Ensure quality records necessary to meet quality requirements are maintained; Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise;
• Keep abreast of market trends and new technology; Implement and enforce all relevant Engineering SHE policies, procedure and practices; Recommend remedial measures from internal and external SHE related incidents to prevent any repeat;
• Best practices in line with ISO 14001 and OHSAS, 18001 standards; Enforce and lead the overall planned maintenance strategy compliance; Identify and implement engineering best practice; Compile and directly control the working cost budget for engineering activities and ensure that capital projects are facilitated within the area of responsibility.
• Develop, implement and monitor adherence to engineering standards and legislative requirements, taking corrective action where necessary; Allocate resources in consultation with relevant Section Heads; Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of engineering processes and systems;
• Drive and implement action plans to achieve the mine strategy and business plans; Ensure the effective management and control of human resources for optimal utilization;
• Ensures projects are carried out according to company policies & procedures; Provide support to external service providers with regards to installations/repairs and maintenance;
• Ensures minimum disruption of production; Evaluates maintenance processes to optimize and improve performance; Leads root cause analyses and develops action plans for identified problems for corrective action; Investigates problems and develops solutions and modifications to be carried out on equipment; Set and prepare financial budget for the section;
• Ensure critical daily maintenance tasks are executed; Ensure that shutdown activities are executed as per plan; Continuous improvement of asset care management; To give direction to supervisors in ensuring that the necessary resources are allocated to meet Departmental requirements;
• To ensure that cost effective and value-added solutions are in place to meet customer needs and;
• To deliver all the requirements of Company policies in particular those designed to improve People Performance and Engagement.

Desired Experience & Qualification

 Minimum Requirements

• BSc/BEng/B Tech or National Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent;
• Government Certificate of Competency (MHS Act) (Mines and Works);
• Supervisory or management training and experience is essential;
• 5-8 year’s maintenance experience in Open Pit Mining Operations/ Mining environment as an Engineer and Metallurgical plant;
• Significant experience in the financial aspects of mining such as cost control, budgeting and return on investment;
• Computer literate (Word, excel, Power Point, etc.) and working knowledge of mine planning software; Valid driver’s licence.
