We're recruiting on behalf of a globally recognised consulting firm seeking a Senior Backfill Engineer to join their mining and infrastructure team. POSITION INFO:

Job & Company Description:

As a Senior Backfill Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of designing, testing, and implementing complex backfill systems, tailings disposal solutions, and mine infrastructure processes. The role spans conceptual to detailed design phases and includes laboratory R&D, on-site commissioning, and the mentoring of junior engineers. You’ll work across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and efficient engineering solutions from feasibility to operation.

Job Experience & Skills Required:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Process Engineering
• At least 15 years’ experience in mining operations or consulting, with a strong focus on:
  
  • Backfill plants, tailings disposal systems, and mine infrastructure
  • Hydraulic fill, paste fill, and cemented rockfill systems
  • Slurry transport modeling and underground distribution systems
• Knowledge of laboratory testing protocols for paste backfill (e.g., rheology, UCS testing, thickening, filtration)
• Strong process design and plant commissioning capabilities
• Valid South African driver’s license and willingness to travel
• Registered with ECSA or eligible for registration
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and relevant engineering software
• Excellent leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
• Committed to HSE compliance and risk management practices
