SUMMARY:
A dynamic FinTech company is seeking a Senior Data Operations Engineer (South Africa, hybrid role). The non-negotiables are advanced SQL mastery, data warehousing, and automation experience.

POSITION INFO:
Are you a seasoned Data Operations Engineer ready to take ownership of high-impact SQL and data warehouse processes? This hybrid role offers the chance to influence architectural decisions, implement best practices, and work directly with the CIO and senior stakeholders—with a clear growth path into management or platform leadership.

Qualifications:

Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience in data engineering, data operations, or a similar technical data role
Strong understanding of relational databases, data warehousing, and system integrations
Certification in SQL Server, Azure Data Engineering, or equivalent (advantageous)

Requirements:

Expert-level SQL skills, including stored procedures, data extracts, and performance tuning
Proven track record modernizing legacy SQL/data systems and implementing automation
Experience with data warehouse design, particularly star schema and dimensional modeling
Strong knowledge of data governance, quality control, and operational risk mitigation
Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, or similar modern data platforms
Ability to document and transfer knowledge effectively for business continuity
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams

KPA’s:

Modernize legacy SQL processes and automate data workflows
Serve as the data custodian for core domains, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
Maintain and optimize operational and reporting data pipelines
Drive integration between source systems and the central data warehouse
Lead root cause analysis for data issues and recommend long-term solutions
Ensure alignment with business stakeholders and data champions
Deliver comprehensive documentation and technical knowledge transfer
Act as the technical escalation point for SQL/data-related production issues
