Opportunity/Job Purpose
M+S is looking for a dedicated Senior ESS Product Owner Engineer based in Durban, to join the Engineering Department. The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate creativity, commercial grasp, design rigour and self-starting attributes. maxwell+spark fosters a diverse, fast paced, progressive work environment with a multidisciplinary approach to engineering without micro-management. The candidate should have an affinity for such working conditions and be able to rise to the occasion.
What will you do?
Role and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Product Development Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the ESS.li product at a wholesale level including the effective development and roll out of the product.
- Identify reliability and user centered improvements and implement these.
- Work and effectively communicate with Sales, After Sales, Engineering, Production, Procurement, Customers, Users, Marketing, Logistics, and other stakeholders to realise a viable product.â¯
- Communicate closely with the Head of Engineering.â¯
- Understand the product driving forces, sale ability, market, etc.â¯
- Developing product strategy together with Sales and other role players
- Understanding certification requirements and lay out strategy if needed.
- Assist in developing technical marketing material.â¯
- Oversee or execute building of spec sheets and user manuals.â¯
- Technical improvement and optimization and production optimization.â¯
- Create product service manual.â¯
- Production documentation incl. receiving packs, build packs & BOMs.â¯
- Assist creating pricelists and ROI calculators.â¯â¯
- Technical sales support.â¯
- Specification and design of production lines.â¯
- Manage other technical resources as assigned to the product.
Engineering Role and Responsibilities: - Design ESS battery and control systems.
- Lead product design for ESS.li product line, support provided from the engineering department.
- Detail design of products and / or product components. Support on the mechanical design aspects provided by other engineers in the company.
- 3D CAD modelling, facilitating design review sessions.
- Produce or manage delivery of fabrication drawings and designs.
- Assist in solving complex engineering problems sometimes outside of the scope of general engineering.
- Assist in testing & documenting the products and components as they evolve.
- Support and enable certification procedures where required.
- Support others, including fabrication or production staff, in executing builds.
- Project planning and writing progress reports.
- Monitoring product data, assessing and reporting on trends.
- Prototype design, evaluation and testing to support the company’s Research and Development program.
- Documenting all drawings, evaluations and meetings.
- Creating component specifications and validating this with the originator
Requirements - BSc Eng. (Electrical or Electronic) with at least 5 years’ experience, or MSc Eng and 2+ years’ work experience.
- Strong aptitude for clear technical writing and communication.
- Strong knowledge of designing circuit schematics, knowledge and experience in PCB design including with microcontrollers is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of developing firmware for a range of microcontrollers.
- Solid knowledge of circuit simulation.
- Experience with CAN (Controller Area Network) will be beneficial, but not required.
- Motivated, with proficiency in testing and reporting in electrical / electronic related matters.
- Driver’s license and willingness to travel intermittently.
- Ability to work well in a team, but also independently.
- Further qualifications in/outside the field of engineering are an advantage.
- Interest in energy storage systems and power electronics.
