Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer

SUMMARY:
Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer Grade : D4 - Furnace background advantageous Must have a valid passport and be prepared to travel locally and internationally and spend fairly extensive periods of time on site.

POSITION INFO:

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

• Develop a conceptual and detailed design of engineered components, electrical and control systems, related equipment and manage application software development using modern engineering tools, according to the contract, the safety rules and the time schedule.

• Be responsible for the execution of the engineering related to the specific project, ensuring that all the calculations, drawings and technical documents are complete and issued in time, involving the relevant expertise within the Company.

• Ensure the continuous improvement of systems and procedures for operational functions.

REPORTING TO:

Manager: Electrical & Instrumentation

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

• Create an electrical design that meets the:

(1) Project scope which is fit for purpose

(2) Company design rules & criteria

(3) Safety standards

(4) Is maintainable

• Create the E& I portion of the project schedule & provide accurate progress information into the schedule

• Deliver the design according to the project schedule

• Set up and manage the E&I Design Review meetings, recording and distributing minutes of such meetings

• Ensure P&IDs are technically correct and signed off for design to meet the project schedule

• Ensure that the control philosophy is technically sound and signed off for design to meet the project on schedule.

• Participate in HAZOP reviews.

• Ensure that the FAT and SATs are documented and signed off.

• Ensure that all manuals are technically correct and delivered on time.

• Provide input into marketing / new project studies.

• Ensure that Data Sheets, Technical Specifications and Operational/Maintenance Manuals are correctly generated by the Design Engineers.

• Ensure that Erection/Installation Manuals are correctly generated by the Project Engineers.

• Report to Project Managers for project-related matters (schedule, budget, purchase phase, site progress)

• Interface with the client.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• A minimum N.Dip or B-Tech or degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering

• A minimum of 8 -10 year’s experience in a design engineering environment

• E-Plan experience

• Control system experience

• LV Design experience. (Motor Control Centre)

• HV/MV design experience

• Knowledge of 3 phase transformer specification and testing essential

• SAF/DC Furnace design advantageous

• AutoCAD P&ID experience

• Must have advanced knowledge of control systems and instrumentation and be familiar with applicable codes, standards and acceptable international and local industry practices.

• MS Office package skills

• MS Projects working knowledge
