Senior Electrician - Data Centre

SUMMARY:
We have an exciting new position available for a Senior Electrician based at my client’s data centre in Gauteng, Samrand. You will be responsible to ensure the optimal functioning of the electrical and mechanical aspects of our national data centre operations.

POSITION INFO:

The data centre is an award-winning, proprietary concept and offers an exciting opportunity to take ownership in a pleasant, self-organising environment.

Responsibilities:

• The ideal candidate will be constantly looking for ways to maintain and enhance the facilities, which includes everything other than the internal server and network infrastructure.
• Regular inspections include test runs of the redundant power system as a unit, as well as its individual components (UPS, batteries, and generators), medium voltage stations and transformers.
• Ensure the minimum health and safety requirements as set out by the Department of Labour and the Occupational Health and Safety Act are adhered to.
• Find innovative ways to further improve the efficiencies of the power and mechanical ecosystem through finding and analysing small problems that can cause major problems and inefficiencies at scale.
• Thorough documentation, e.g. create or maintain schematics, marking of equipment, user manuals, etc.
• The task spectrum may include several marginal areas, such as responsibility for vehicles, tools, fire protection/extinguishers, safety regulations, etc.
• Supervision of external contractors, response to emergencies and later guidance of team members.
• Decide when contractors are to be engaged.
• Maintains the relationship with the contractors and suppliers.

Requirements:

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electro-Mechanical trade studies.
• Qualified Electrician as per central trade test organisation requirements.
• Wireman’s License.
• 10 years’ experience in electrical installations and maintenance.
• Licensed as a Master Installation Electrician.
• Exposure to industrial air-conditioning technology designs and maintenance.
• Experience with high-end UPS and standby electrical systems.
• PLC programming and maintenance.
• Licensed and sufficiently skilled to operate medium voltage switchgear.
• Supervisory experience.
• CAD experience.
