SUMMARY:
A large role player in the market has an opportunity for a Senior Substation Engineer/Senior Technologist (Substations). Required: ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.
POSITION INFO:
Required:
- Planning and design of HV power transmission and distribution infrastructure from 132kV up to 765kV.
- Handling multiple projects and preparing and providing guidance in the development of the engineering deliverables for electrical substation projects, including layouts and drawings, the selection of substation equipment, equipment and construction specifications and all the associated electrical calculations and studies.
- Performing the necessary calculations and studies, including power systems studies on utility and industrial/commercial power transmission and distribution systems.
- Development of project design documentation, technical specifications, performing concept and/or detail design layouts, and providing a detail design package that complies with applicable local, international and client specifications and standards.
- Engaging with other project stakeholders and team members and coordinating overall design packages and requirements.
- Managing, attending and participating in FAT and SAT planning and execution.
- Providing engineering support during construction.
- Resolving and responding to technical queries from contractors.
- Planning and coordinating preâcommissioning and commissioning activities.
- Attending and contributing to site and project technical meetings as necessary.
- Final handover of documentation as necessary.
- Preparing expressions of interests (EOIs), tenders and request for quotations.
- Assisting with and participating in business development and company marketing activities.
- 7 to 10 years' post-qualification technical experience in HV power transmission and distribution infrastructure in the power utility sector. Eskom distribution/transmission experience will be an advantage.
- BSc Eng or BEng in Electrical Engineering, with 7 years' relevant post-qualification technical experience.
- OR BTech in Electrical Engineering, with 10 years' relevant post-qualification technical experience at an engineering level.
- Detailed knowledge of power utilization equipment (primary plant equipment) and related structural, foundation and bulk civil requirements.
- Project administration and coordination skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Problem solving and team working skills.
- Computer literacy with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Sound knowledge of Bentley Microstation.
- National and Internationals engineering codes and standards.
- Proficient in principles of project management.
- DigSilent.
- PSSE.
- MS Projects.
- Experience in protection, metering, telecommunication and control systems (secondary plant systems).
- Supplementary qualification or experience in Project Management.
