SUMMARY:
An engineering underwriting management Client seeks a suitable Senior Engineering Insurance Marketer/Underwriter, to assist in its profitable growth ambitions in South Africa and other Sub-Saharan African territories. Must have an Engineering degree or diploma, relevant Short-term Insurance qualification and be FAIS Compliant. This individual is expected to identify and cultivate new opportunities for profitable growth, and nurture existing relationships.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements:

Must have Engineering degree or diploma.
Must have relevant Short-term Insurance qualification.
Must be FAIS Compliant.
RE1 and RE5 will be advantageous.
Minimum of 5 years engineering insurance and/or reinsurance experience.
Additional insurance and/or engineering working experience would be beneficial.
Track record of managing portfolios of clients/brokers in South African insurance market.
Track record of strong insurance industry relations in Sub-Saharan African region.
Proven ability to assist with large and complex claims.
Proven ability to present/propose referral cases to reinsurers for consideration.
Proven ability to conduct sales, marketing, and training initiatives in order to maintain and grow client/broker portfolio.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop a full understanding of the agency’s offering, and future capabilities through ongoing engagement and relationship building with internal teams.
Work closely with risk carriers.
Proactively identify potential customers within South Africa and the rest of Sub-Sahara Africa, drive insurance interest, underwrite risks and close deals to achieve forecasted profitable growth.
Work with the current Executive Team to create appropriate marketing, proposal, and pricing structures.
Track insurance opportunities and report on these regularly.
Take full responsibility for the underwriting and business development function of the agency.
