Senior Hydrogeologist

SUMMARY:
We are looking for someone who can study the distribution, flow and quality of groundwater, make appropriate recommendations on mitigative actions or monitoring requirements, where required, and provide further specialist input/advice

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Requirements:

• Honours in Hydrogeology (MSc. preferred) or related field.
• 10 or more years’ experience with all relevant fieldwork in a consulting sector.
• At least 5 years’ experience in numerical modelling
• Understanding of the National Water Act and DWS guidelines
• Must be in possession of a driver’s licence.
• Must be willing to travel throughout Africa and elsewhere, as the need arises.
• Must be able to sell and market their services
• Detailed understanding of applicable legislation relating to groundwater, surface water, storm water, wastewater treatment, and health and safety
• Excellent Report Writing Skills

Duties:

• Interpreting technical data and information from maps and historical documents to build a conceptual model of groundwater flow and quality.
• Designing and completing groundwater supplies, groundwater monitoring networks, groundwater impact assessments or groundwater quality assessments (which may include environmental measurements and sampling for ongoing monitoring regimes) in order to confirm results from of or development of hydrogeological models.
• Using modelling techniques (numerical and geochemical) to enable predictions of future trends and/or impacts on groundwater flow and quality.
• Delivering the ‘best practice’ environmental standards in consultation with the applicable government agencies and client’s requirements.
• Compiling reports, undertaking administrative duties and acting on environmental and water issues for clients.
• Representing the client in environmental and related issues at a local level.
• Collecting hydrogeological data relating to mine dewatering and water monitoring.
• Undertaking field excursions in order to complete the above; locally and internationally.
• Integrating activities with a team of specialists both technically and socially.
• Provide support and mentorship to junior staff.
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Carry out business development and marketing activities.
• Working in close collaboration with specialists from other disciplines.
• Mentoring and developing junior hydrogeologists.
• Project managing and administrating projects, where required.
• Time and budget management
• Project management implementation
