Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer – Server and Storage – Global Law Firm, Sandton, Johannesburg (R1M pa CTC)

POSITION INFO:

A prestigious global Law Firm with over 40 offices in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. They have a well-established presence in the world''s major financial and commercial markets to provide excellent business-oriented advice to clients both locally and internationally.

They are currently seeking to URGENTLY appoint highly dynamic and competent Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer – Server and Storage for their SA offices based in Sandton, Johannesburg:

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

• Report into the Senior Global Server & Storage Engineer
• The Server and Storage Infrastructure Team is responsible for the design, implementation, development and support of servers, storage and backup environments within the Company globally.
• The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will specialise in one or more disciplines, these include but are not limited to:
  • Server hardware, specifically Cisco and Dell.
  • Microsoft Server OS, VMware, Azure Stack, Linux, CLI.
  • Converged Infrastructures such as Cisco HCI and Dell VxBlock. 
  • All storage technologies including NAS, File, Block and Object storage. Specifically Dell PowerMax, Isilon and ECS.
  • Data protection methodologies such as backups, snapshots and  replication in particular Cohesity.
  • Deploying infrastructure in a multi-cloud environment.
• Process automation such as automated server builds.

KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• Certifications in Cloud (AWS/Azure), VMware and Microsoft Server desired but not essential.
• Ideally have experience of working in an enterprise multi-domain environment and have a broad range of IT skills.
• Experience of working with core virtualisation and storage technologies including VMware, Azure Stack, HyperFlex, Simplivity Omnicubes, PowerMax, Isilon, ECS and Cohesity Data Platform.
• Customer oriented experience in a global enterprise environment.
• Proven ability to drive and execute processes and standard procedures to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Able to take the lead on major projects, working in conjunction with project managers to tight deadlines
• Articulate and conversant, with the confidence to take on tasks thoroughly without full supervision
• Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritise in accordance with business requirements
• Strong attention to detail and methodical at all times
• Demonstrate professionalism to support a culture of integrity within the team
• Uphold professionalism with sensitive and confidential matters.
• Genuine passion for technology, particularly within virtualisation, storage and data protection. Appreciation of current and forthcoming technology.
• Exceptional analytical skills and mind-set. Ability to investigate and decipher within structural processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: 

• To carry out installations, upgrade, moves, maintenance and decommissioning of all servers and server related equipment adhering to a strict set of guidelines.
• To monitor and maintain all server and SAN and NAS related hardware, including their supporting infrastructure, configuration of SAN related server software and the provisioning of storage.
• Provide governance around cloud initiatives to ensure the integrity of client data and the firm’s systems.
• Work to design a cloud based, virtual data center, including failover.
• To plan, install, upgrade and otherwise maintain the firm’s server virtual environments.
• Automate workflows to aid the team in in both efficiency and consistency
• To install, upgrade and maintain Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems (or other operating systems as required) adhering to structured build documentation, maintaining a security focus at all times.
• Responsible for ensuring the firm’s IT security policies and procedures are always enforced.
• Support the firms Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity (DR/BC) plan by providing replicated copies of data between sites, clustering services and snapshots of data for backup, recovery and DR testing purposes and to participate in the execution of the firm''s regular Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery testing.
• Responsible for the firm''s backups, ensuring any issues are highlighted and resolved. Formulate and conduct monthly restore tests for the global team.
• Provide assistance with any system or file restores as required using the tools most appropriate to the task ensuring tapes are returned offsite or to tape libraries in adherence with the firm''s policies.
• To troubleshoot issues and monitor performance of all server and storage environments, working with third party vendors where appropriate.
• Where required to assist other technology teams in the implementation of system changes or deployment of applications.
• To assist the team in building structured, globally focussed documentation of all systems and procedures that are relevant to the data center environments.
• Taking the lead on assigned projects or tasks, carrying out relevant research and defining and/or documenting the scope of the project.
• To carry out reviews of the current processes and documentation as required.To keep up to date with relevant technologies and make recommendations as to their potential use within the organisation.
• There is a requirement to work outside of normal business hours in order to carry out tasks which may otherwise impact on the firm’s ability to conduct its business and to be part of the ''out of hours'' on-call rota. 
• You may also be required to travel to the firm''s international offices and datacenters in order to carry out specific tasks.
• •               Ensure compliance with all change control processes and follow ITIL best practices using the Company system as a primary tool.
