JOB DESCRIPTION:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Is to create, develop and facilitate the acquisition of musical knowledge and skills by individuals in order that they can function effectively within the music profession and as productive members of the broader society.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • To teach a variety of brass instruments, inclusive of French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and tuba.
  • To lead brass ensembles.
  • To facilitate the learning and teaching in the department.
  • To maintain a successful and dynamic band programme.
  • To conduct and publish research or produce appropriate performances and creative outputs.
  • To perform academic and music engagement.
  • To perform administration.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrable knowledge of brass pedagogies and the application of teaching brass repertoire.
  • Proven experience at facilitating learning at undergraduate and some experience at postgraduate level.
  • Ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge and music performance or the potential to contribute by virtue of publications or appropriate creative outputs, and the ability to supervise postgraduate candidates.
  • Proficiency in leading bands and/or ensembles.

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to this post at lecturer level, candidates should have a Master’s degree. Supervision experience will be beneficial. At senior lecturer level, candidates should have a Doctorate with supervision experience and at least two years of lecturing experience in the field.
